 The Golden Globe Awards are presented and judged by the HFPA.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association donated more than $12 million in the past seventeen years to entertainment-related charities, as well as funding scholarships and other programs for future film and television professionals. In the year 2010 the donation was a record 1.541,000 dollars, the largest tally ever distributed in the organization's history.

HOW TO CELEBRATE MLK DAY WITH YOUR KIDS

Have a Birthday Party

  Invite your children and their friends to a birthday party for Martin Luther King Jr. The invitations can include photos of King and quotes from his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Let kids know that they will be celebrating a very special birthday.

  Serve a variety of foods. One of the most important things Dr. King taught was to befriend people from all races and backgrounds. Help kids understand this by offering such diverse foods as Chinese stir-fry, Mexican tostadas, Greek pita sandwiches and Italian calzones. You may also want to serve sweet tea or peach pie in honor of Dr. King's hometown of Atlanta.

  Play a trivia game with questions based on Martin Luther King's life. Many interesting facts can be found at the Nobel Prize website and at the website of the King Center (See Resources below). Award prizes to all children for taking part in the game.

It was a rough Friday the 13^th for celebrities!

        Madonna accused Lady GaGa of ripping off one of her hits. She claims that “Born This Way” was ripped off from “Express Yourself”

         Southern Chef Paula Deen, Queen of Cholesterol, will no longer be able to indulge in her deep fried, sugar coated, yummy foods. Word leaked out today through Huffingtonpost.com and other online sources, that Deen is about to admit she has been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.

      

 

  Actor Gene Hackman was struck by a car while bike riding in the Florida Keys on Friday afternoon. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. The 81 year old Oscar winner was later released with bumps and bruises.

       John Edwards, who is charged with six felony counts and misdemeanor counts related to donations and payments he allegedly made from his 2008 presidential campaign, had his trial postponed until March 26^th. Edwards is reported to have developed a life threatening heart condition. He’s also accused of conspiracy, issuing false statements, violating campaign contribution laws and funneling money to his mistress, Rielle Hunter. I guess that’s enough to give anyone a heart condition!

       Heather Locklear was admitted to Los Robles Hospital Friday. She remains in intensive care but is said to be stable and resting comfortably. No reason for her hospitalization has been announced, but of course the tabloids are saying “drugs and alcohol”, even though it has not been confirmed.

      

          It was announced Friday that 9 year old Kathleen Edwards, the little girl with Huntington’s disease who was taunted and cyber bullied, died Wednesday. Kathleen’s neighbor, Jennifer Petkov, posted photos on Facebook of Kathleen’s face with a skull and crossbones underneath and drove past the Edward’s house with a coffin attached to a truck. She also posted a picture of Laura Edwards (Kathleen’s mother who died of the same disease in 2009) lying next to the Grim Reaper.

Happy Friday the 13^th! It’s the first one of the year, but there will be 2 more in 2012. The next will be in April and another in July. (For the really superstitious, that’s 3 Friday the 13^th’s in 13 weeks!)

People who are afraid of Friday the 13^th are called paraskevidekatriaphobiacs. Think it’s a myth? Think again! There are over 60 million of these people in the world.

The number 13 has long been a source of superstition and fear. Some believe it began with events surrounding Christ’s crucifixion. There were 13 people at the table for the last supper and Jesus died on a Friday.

Other experts trace back the evil origins of 13 to the Code of Hammurabi which was enacted without a 13th law. Friday, according to History.com, was also the day that Eve offered Adam the forbidden fruit. Others point to the demise of the Knights Templar, who were arrested on October 13th, 1307. It was a Friday.

The superstition has crept into modern culture. Many tall buildings are built without a 13th floor. The ill-fated Apollo 13 mission gave paraskevidekatriaphobiacs “proof” that the number 13 was unlucky.

Business suffers on Friday the 13^th as well. Between $800 - $900 million is lost because many people won’t fly or do business on this day. Who wants to have surgery on Friday the 13^th? Would you bet on the horses on this day?

What is up with women??? Did I just hear that right, Heather Locklear ends up in hospital after taking pills and drinking all because Jack Wagner calls off engagement??

A spokeswoman for Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, Calif. confirms to KNBC TV’s Bev White that Heather Locklear was admitted and will stay overnight. She was conscious, stable and resting comfortably, said Kris Carraway-Bowman, VP of marketing and public relations for the hospital.

Actress Heather Locklear was taken to the hospital on Thursday afternoon after a 911 call was placed from her home earlier in the day.

"Emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear's residence," Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Aranda told PEOPLE. "Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention."

According to TMZ, it was the actress' sister who made the call shortly after 2 p.m. PT. The website also reports that law enforcement sources said Locklear, 50, had mixed alcohol with prescription drugs.

A source told Radar Onlinethat the "Melrose Place" star was "distraught over her relationship with Jack (Wagner), it is on and off and it has upset her lately." Locklear and her "Melrose" co-star Wagner ended their engagement in November, saying it was the best thing for their children.

 The first cookie sales by an individual Scout unit was by the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma in December 1917. In 1922, the Girl Scout magazine The American Girl suggested cookie sales as a fund-raiser and provided recipes. In 1933, Girl Scouts in Philadelphia organized the first official sale, selling homemade cookies at the windows of local utility companies. The first Girl Scout cookie recipe was a sugar cookie. In 1936 the national organization began licensing commercial bakers to produce cookies.
