THE PERFECT ROLE MODEL....

The story behind this photo.... I was on the field with my son and our Scout Pack at the time. We were holding the Flags for the National Anthem. It was literally 2 minutes before game time. I had shorts on. I made eye contact with Gary Carter, lifted up my shorts and showed him my huge Mets logo on my prosthetic leg. Gary was amazed. He made the whole team look at it then he came over to shake my hand. It was a great moment for me. I was 16 when the Mets won in 86. Carter was the perfect role model for a teen. I feel like I lost a part of my youth with the news of his passing. As a cancer survivor I know what this poor man had to go through. Its such a horrible thing to go through... only to end up losing the battle. No matter what sport... all professional athletes should handle themselves, & us, with as much class as Gary Carter did.

THE AMAZING GARY CARTER

Gary Carter :: C

Tony Walker

A few weeks ago I posted a piece about Baseball Hall Of Famer Gary Carter.
Carter has some inoperable tumors in his brain.
Word came out that the tumors have shrunk by 80%!!!
80%!!!
I have to tell you... I am amazed by this. Are you?
Did I mention it was 80%?
That's quite a number!
Congrats to Gary Carter on this wonderful news. I hope for him & his family the good news keeps coming in.
Ever since I've been following Gary Carter since the early 1980's it's been widely reported that he is a Christian, a "man of God."
I'm curious to hear what you guys think. Do you think someone's faith has anything to do with this miraculous news? Do you think it was the chemo and other meds,  religion has nothing to do with it?
Maybe you think it's neither and what saves you is just a true positive attitude.
I was a devout Catholic when I was young and I was at Church every Sunday from the age of 6 through the age of 26. While I may not practice under the title of a religion now I do have my faith. I also tried to keep a positive attitude while I was sick. I personally believe my survival was a combination of my faith and my attitude but I will also tell you that while those 2 things worked for me I honestly have no idea of that's what every person needs to survive something like cancer.
Tell us what you think.

SADNESS IN THE BASEBALL WORLD

Tony Walker

In sports those of us in the baseball world were saddened to hear that hall of famer Gary Carter has 4 tumors in his brain that are inoperable. The tumors are stage 4 which is pretty bad.
Here in NY, the name Gary Carter is very popular. Carter was one the heroes on the 1986 NY Mets World Series Champions.

As a HUGE Met fan, I met Carter on 4 separate occasions and he was super nice and down to earth. None of the times I met him were at a dinner or baseball show where these guys get paid stupid money to appear to give a shit what fans are saying to them. One time I was backstage at a Fleetwood Mac concert of all places and I had a Mets shirt on so Carter came right up to me. We sat and ate dinner together and chatted like old friends. I laughed because my seats for the concert were better than his. Another time I met him was at a Long Island Ducks game. The Ducks are a local team here on Long Island. In 2009 Carter was the manager. My prosthetic leg has a huge Mets logo on it and I had shorts on. So when Carter saw it he was so impressed he came running to me! Check out my Facebook page... my profile pic is Carter and I from that Ducks game.

So the story is Carter was just not feeling himself and was starting to forget simple things so he went to the doctor only to find out that he has cancer. Can you imagine that?? You're feeling fine then one day you don't feel 100% only to find out something like that is going on inside of you and your whole world is turned upside down in an instant!! I know that feeling. My story of finding out I had cancer is very similar to Carter's. I hope none of you will ever find out what that is like.

Carter's playing career also saw him in Montreal, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. So baseball fans from all over know who he is. Let's all send our love to him, his family, and anyone else going through something as horrible as this.
