EATERY IS OPEN FOR MEMORIAL DAY - RED, WHITE AND BLUE TORTE

Red, White and Blueberry Torte recipe

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 1/2 cups (9 oz.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 of an 8-oz. container frozen light whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Line 9-inch-round cake pan with wax paper; grease paper.

COMBINE 3/4 cup sugar, butter and water in small, heavy-duty saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly; remove from heat. Add 3/4 cup morsels; stir until smooth. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add eggs, one at a time, stirring well after each addition. Add flour, baking soda and salt; stir until well blended. Stir in remaining 3/4 cup morsels. Pour into prepared cake pan.

BAKE for 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out slightly sticky. Cool in pan for 15 minutes. Invert torte onto wire rack; remove wax paper. Turn right side up; cool completely.

BEAT cream cheese, 2 tablespoons sugar and remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in small mixer bowl until creamy. Stir in whipped topping. Spread over torte; top with berries. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

WANNA LAUGH?!?!

The other day I took Boyle to Atlantic City for some gambling.
We found one table where no one was gambling & the dealers look bored.
Boyle walks over & says to the dealers, "Hope you fellas don't mind.... I feel much luckier when I am nude."
With that she strips completely naked, rolls the dice, & yells, "Mama needs new clothes!!"
Then she hollers, "YES! YES! I WON! I WON!"
She jumps up & down & hugs both dealers. With that she quickly picks up her clothes & her winnings & splits.
The dealers stare at each other, dumbfounded. Finally one asks the other, "What did she roll?"
The other answers, "I thought YOU were watching!"
Moral of the story: Not all blondes are dumb.

STRIP MALLS AND STRIP CLUBS

Tony Walker

Some of you may find this hard to believe....
For the past few months I have been joining my community in the fight against a strip club.

If you've read my posts or if you know me you're probably laughing hysterically right now.

I love naked woman more than the average man so why would I fight against a strip club?

I'll tell you why... because this club will be walking distance from my house.

Strip clubs belong in industrial areas away from residential neighborhoods, right?

If you live on Long Island, New York, you've probably read about it. There have been articles in Newsday and our local news, Channel 12. (My wife and I are seen in the piece real quick... applauding one of our local politicians who came out and spoke on the community's behalf).

THE GOOD GIRL'S DILEMMA

The Good Girl
DRL's own Jillian B. Hart asks us if we're only coloring within the lines when it comes to sex. I wonder how many of us are starting off with the smallest box of crayons out there. I thought of an early episode of "In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman" on OWN which dealt with the struggle of a woman who was very caught up in what "good girls" did and didn't do with their partners. There seemed to be a clear distinction for her what was appropriate for a good girl (missionary) and what wasn't (oral sex). These ideas of what a "good girl" would or wouldn't do were preventing her from feeling comfortable and free in the bedroom. It was also affecting her husband's sense of self-worth. Their marriage was at a breaking point.

It's common for many women to suffer from these self-imposed rules. Perhaps it starts in junior high and high school. We get categorized into good vs. bad girls. It doesn't seem to happen on the same scale to boys (from my point of view anyway...I had very little insight into the male mind at that age). If guys were sexually active, they were just being teenage boys. Girls were sluts. And we all knew who the bad girls were. Rumors swirled around them, people whispered behind their backs. Years later, I wonder how many of them actually enjoyed sex back then. Were they doing it because they really wanted to or because they felt they had to. That is a question I never had then. All I thought was that they were having sex and that made them bad girls.

I think of that quote from "The Breakfast Club" when Ally Sheedy's character laments that sex, for girls, is a double-edge sword. If you do it, you're a slut, if you don't, you're a prude. How true that is in the teenage landscape. And how that mindset follows many of us into adulthood.

It saddens me when women let worries of being a "bad" girl affect their sex lives. We are judging ourselves so harshly, putting ourselves into unfair categories. Sex is a natural part of a healthy relationship. And intimacy is essential to to success of a relationship. Thanks to the Internet, I've come across things that would make Caligula blush, but what consenting adults do in private should not fall into good or bad as long as the parties involved are both happy and willing. It's alright to say "no," but don't believe that you are limited to expressing yourself physically because "good girls" only do certain things. There are no rules other than those we put on ourselves, especially when we feel safe and loved. And if you're not feeling that safety and love, it is a must to ask why not.

Dr. Berman gave the couple homework including a new position for sex. The fact that the wife was willing to try seem to mean more to her husband than the act. There seemed to be a new hope and excitement that had been lacking for a long time in their marriage. Anything worth doing takes effort. A strong relationship is surely worth testing our self-imposed rules.

LIFT YOUR VOICE

We a DRL offer our thoughts and prayers to all the victims of the recent tornados in the midwest as well as all the victims in recent weeks.  Lift your voice in prayer with ours that the Lord bestows strength, courage and healing to all those dealing with the aftermath and devastation.  May the Lord's mercy and love especially embrace those searching for the missing - those searching for the ones they love.
"God is our refuge and strength,
an ever present help in trouble." -Psalm 46:1

SHRIMP FRA DIABLO

1 1/2 lbs. lg. shrimp, shelled and deveined
4 oz. olive oil
4 cloves chopped garlic
2 lg. cans crushed Italian tomatoes
1 tbsp. dried basil
1 tbsp. Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp. or more of crushed red pepper
1/2 tbsp. dried oregano
3 oz. dry white wine
Salt and pepper to taste

In a medium saucepan over medium high heat, saute garlic in oil until garlic is slightly brown. Add tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt and pepper to taste.
Continue to cook on medium high heat for 30 minutes. Add shrimp to sauce, add white wine, cheese and crushed red pepper (for even spicier taste, add extra red pepper). Cook until shrimp are firm about 7 minutes. Serve promptly to avoid over cooking shrimp. Serve over a bed of linguini, or with linguini on the side.

WANNA LAUGH?!?!

The nun agreed.

A moment later two Military Police ran up and asked, Sister, have you seen a soldier?'
The nun replied, 'He went that  way.'

After the MPs ran off, the soldier crawled out from under her skirt and said,

'I can't thank you enough Sister.  You see, I don't want to go to Afghanistan.'
The nun said, 'I understand completely.'

The soldier  added, 'I hope I'm not rude, but you have a great pair of  legs!'
The nun replied, 'If you had looked a little higher, you would have seen a great pair of balls...I don't want to  go to Afghanistan either.'
A soldier runs up to a nun.
Out of breath he asked, 'Please, may I hide under your skirt.  I'll explain later.'

SHE SAID....

Dawn Boyle

First it was parents who decided to not inoculate their child. Now it's raising your child without a gender.

According to Parent Central, Kathy Witterick and David Stocker of Canada, have decided to keep the gender of four-month-old a secret to all but their two older children (two boys), and a few others who knows the gender of "Storm". The emailed announcement sent by the parents read:

We've decided not to share Storm's sex for now — a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in Storm's lifetime (a more progressive place? ...)

For as far back as I can remember there have always been people with beliefs on the fringes, but this could really screw the kid up! I see many years of psychological evaluation for "Storm". Something that the parents are probably doing out of good and in trying to make acceptable could isolate this child and backfire. Much of the time parents who decide to raise their children in non-mainstream ways only make the child more susceptible to bullying and ridicule. How does Storm fill out sex on forms..... MALE, FEMALE, OTHER?

In this GAGA, LITTLE MONSTERS WORLD is there a reason or necessity to make everyone genderless?

LUNCH TIME POLL - Biggest Loser

LAST CHANCE....  Last Chance to tune in this season!

According to Bob - "It isn't about winning a game, it's about fixing what's broken!" and Jillian tells them all the time, "The past does NOT define you, the present does!" Cara and Brett weigh in with much the same sentiments.

They were all asked; Will Anything Stop You?  Will Anything hold you back? Have you finished what you started???  Last weeks final four ended with Hannah and Olivia as the top two locked in finalists.
Jay and Irene will await America's vote.

One way or the other tonight season finally not only changes lives and the show slated to return in the fall will be different.  Any take on the new trainers?  Will you watch when Jillian doesn't return?

Has this show inspired you or someone you know? Care to comment on those who went home... who do you think kept their eyes on the prize?

But of course this all leads to:
Who do you think America voted for?
Who do you think will take the grand prize home?
WHO WILL BE THE BIGGEST LOSER?!?!
