STICKY SWEET

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Patty B

Telemarketer Method: Call someone while they're eating chocolate. pressure them to give you some.

So much chocolate, so little time. Eat fast.

Eating chocolate may help to reduce marital trouble. How can you fight with your spouse with a mouthful of chocolate.

LIVE LIFE - SHAKE THINGS UP!

DLR Welcomes today's guest blogger...

DEANNA

Want to take that pole dancing class? Try fly fishing? Start a running regime? Or perhaps pottery making or Russian cooking or learning more about Feng Shui has caught your attention, peeked your interests, or maybe raised an eyebrow – stop thinking about it and sign up. Don’t get overwhelmed by the paperwork, or that you might not be able to swing your ass around the pole, or that the application is too long, or who will watch the kids, sign up, get out of your comfort zone and make it happen.  Live life.

Why? Cause life is too damn short.  We’ve seen enough devastation, illness, kidnappings, craziness a la Charlie Sheen in the last 30 days than anyone really needs to be exposed to.   We can’t worry about the laundry, or the dishes in the sink, or what to make for dinner, it will get done, and we know it will get done, it always gets done.

LUNCH TIME POLL

Dawn Boyle

Now I have heard of everything...a breast-feeding doll!

This morning I was watching the local news and had to pick my jaw off the floor after I vomited a little in my mouth.

Apparently some company is marketing and selling a doll for little girls to pretend that they are beast feeding. Many breast feeding moms know that siblings will innocently mimic this with their dolls and stuffed animals however, this doll comes with a halter top for the "mommy" with daisy's that open as flower flaps to reveal the breast for easy access feeding.

Today's Lunch Time Poll is:
WTH do you think about this doll?

Men, Women, Nursing and Non Nursing Mothers chime on in... I will be back to see your comments after I use a Brillo pad to clean out my eyes from the visual and use Listerine to banish the vomit taste from my mouth :)

ANOTHER HOLLYWOOD ICON GONE

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

“Elizabeth Taylor dies at 79 of congestive heart failure.” I read the headline and thought “Hmm, another Hollywood icon is gone.” Then I turned the page and didn’t think about it again. That is, not until I happened upon an article on the web that announced that the infamous Westboro Baptist Church was planning to picket her funeral to protest her advocacy of AIDS research and her multiple marriages.  Margie Phelps, the daughter of Fred Phelps ,who heads up the church , posted the following tweet on Twitter : “spreadin’ the word that Westboro will picket funeral of serial-adulterous fag hag RIP Elizabeth Taylor Yay!”

I was shocked and disgusted, and that’s when I became interested enough to look into the life and legend of Dame Elizabeth Taylor.

THIRD TIME... Please let it be the "charm"!

Next week will start what is hopefully my last round of tests for my thyroid cancer.

I go three days in a row and get a shot.  On the last day I get a full body scan. I have done this two other times in the past two years  and have walked out with the result that the cancer was still there. They say it should never go more than two times with that result.

So I am hoping for a negative outcome this time around! And then I can move on with my life. If not I will deal. Like I have with all other things in my life and be strong. From this cancer prognosis and the failing of a marriage, which happened at the same time, I have forged ahead. I have found myself and the direction I want my life to be in. It has given me a sense that this is my life and I need to live it! I can no longer accept things in my life that I once did. Life is to short.

Cancer has brought me some amazing friends. I have a friend, "no name". When this person found out what I was going through they were there for me every step of the way. Since, "No Name", had been through the same exact thing. As each appointment came up. I heard what to expect and I was told I would be fine. I got messages, from "No Name",  asking me if I was okay. Hang in there they said. To this day we are still great friends. To complete these tests I have to be on a iodine free diet for 2 weeks.  Having been on a no iodine diet for 2 weeks, "No Name", told me that when they did that, they lost 18 pounds. WOW! That is, like, music to my ears. Could there really be this positive in my negative?!  And, to think just in time for beach season! Who is better than me! This diet is pretty hard to do I have to say, but I am worth it !!!!

It's a nightmare on Lounge Street

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

Several years ago I took a group of 8th graders to the National Junior Leadership Conference in Washington DC.  Several side trips were planned, including one to Baltimore. While there, I met a high school teacher who told me the story of a young girl who was a senior at the Boarding school where she used to work.

Angie was a dedicated student. She was also a considerate friend and roommate. Finals were approaching and she decided to burn the midnight oil each night in order to study and earn an A. She knew her roommate was a light sleeper who took early classes so she chose to study in the basement recreation room, which would be empty at that time of night. After a few hours, she realized she left one of her textbooks back in her room. She trudged up the three flights of stairs and tiptoed down the hallway. She quietly opened the door and slipped into the pitch black dorm room. A strange metallic smell assaulted her senses and she heard a faint dripping sound, like a leaky faucet. “I’ll have to have

THE ART OF SLEEP

Barbara Ward-Finneran

It's no secret that the busier you get in your life the more your "night's" sleep suffers.  So often even when exhausted and ready to call it a night, you can't get your mind to turn off.  Or, you are so sleep deprived that dozing off isn't the problem.  It's practically instantaneous if you hold still for more then ten seconds.  But then, something wakes you during the night.  It doesn't even matter what it is but now you are awake and tossing and turning.  Mind racing stuck in a "think".  Stuck with the thoughts racing through your head like cars on  a LA freeway. Stuck with stress whether awake or trying to sleep. It's a wicked cycle.  You need  more sleep to be more productive and yet being more productive creates stresses that disrupt sleep.

You don't have to be a genius to figure out that lack of shut eye can have negative effects on your health.  The question therein is, how does one balance all that needs to be done and still get enough sleep to ward off the laundry list of negative side effects of a sleep deficit like; weight gain, memory loss, mood swings, increased risk for heart disease, etc... the list goes on and on.

Scoring the right amount of sleep is crucial to your well being.  It refreshes the mind and is essential for good health.  Many studies recommend 7-8 hours of sleep for adults. In our hyper busy round the clock world is it any wonder that most of us don't hit that mark?  Is the key actually sleeping more or stressing less?

WANNA LAUGH?!?! ...The Late Show - Rated M for Mature

Tony Walker

I went to a bar with my buddy Joe the other day. Joe got pretty drunk.

As it was getting close to leaving, Joe ran to the bathroom.

A few minutes later a loud blood curdling scream is heard coming from the bathroom.

A few minutes later another loud scream reverberated throughout the bar.

I ran to the bathroom to see what was the matter...
"Joe! What the hell is going on? You're freaking everybody out!"

"I'm just sitting here on the toilet & every time I flush something comes up & squeezes the hell out of my balls!"

So I look into Joe's stall....
"You moron. You're sitting on the mop bucket."
