SHE SAID.... Dawn Boyle

Dawn  Boyle

I am married to the smartest man in the world....and I just figured out why. He had successfully screwed up laundry, dishes, bed making enough, early on in our relationship that he doesn't have to do anything because as he says "I don't do it how you like."

This man has watched me fold towels the same way for 12 years, yet can not do it properly. He has watched my methodic way of stacking dishes smallest to tallest in the dishwasher, yet can not seem to get the gist of it. Made his bed religiously for 20 some odd years before I started, yet can not get the sheets straight like me...he can't figure out which clothes belong to which person, yet I have a 10 year old and a 7 year old with VERY DIFFERENT sizes...

Tony, I again applaud you and your efforts to help around the house, and will now put a call into GK and tell him the jig is up!

By the way GK....if I don't get you on the phone, I know you read this on the train on your way home from work. Do yourself a favor and visit FlipFlopOGram and order me those Yogamat flip flops if you want to be in my good gracies again, now that I figured you out! The Link is below and the ad is up on the site :) OH and if you don't know - SIZE 7!

LUNCH TIME POLL

Dawn Boyle

Yesterday after receiving notification about "unspecified" delays on the railroad that my husband takes in/out of Manhattan, I instantly got nervous, post 9/11 thoughts raced through my head. Then again yesterday driving over several bridges I thought the similar things.

Are there everyday occurances that you sometimes think about differently post 9/11? Is this only true for those states hit the hardest?  Share your thoughts and comments?

HE SAID....

Tony Walker

Brace yourselves.... my He Said post for this week is not sexual! I know that's hard to believe coming from me. Sorry.

One thing I've seen many of you sexy ladies complain about at The Lounge is that your man does not help you enough around the house. Well if you ladies are anything like my wife I may know why.
First a little history.... from the moment my wife moved into my house I helped with household chores. Since life is all about sex, I was always looking for ways to score points. What better way to score right?
Fast forward a few years to when I started my cancer fun. I was laid up for 3 years so my wife had to do EVERYTHING in the house. Once I was back on my feet, or in my case foot, I did not help with the chores right away. We both became accustomed to my wife doing everything. It wasn't a conscious decision for me not to help, it was just what I was used to after 3 years. My wife was used to it too. It took her awhile to realize that things did not have to be this way anymore.

So a few years ago she came to see & said she wants me to help like used to. No argument here. There is no reason why I can't help. So I immediately did.

SOUL FOOD

Rather then list reasons as to why it can't be -

focus your energies into finding reasons that it can.
Believe enough to make it happen.
That which may seem like an end can easily become a beginning.
The only time it's ever over is if you let it be -
the greater the challenge the sweeter the reward.
Push forward... It's worth it, you're worth it

Keep the promises that you make to yourself!

GETTING ON MY FLIP FLOPS

What is a Flip Flop O Gram

Dawn Boyle

Today I was sitting outside of my house and my girlfriend Angie looked down at my toes and said..."God, do I need  a pedicure, it's almost flip flop season". I gotta tell ya, I have been wearing them since I got back from vacation on March 7th. I walked off the plane and I seriously have worn them every day. I am what you would call a FLIP FLOP whore. I have tons of them. I have expensive ones and some kicking around from Target flops. I wear them about 8 months a year. That's right, I have worn them in the snow. I love my flip flops. I even have a code I use with my girl friends "getting on my flip flops" which means I am on my way. Are you like me? If you are, I am about to introduce you to the Queen of my flip flop land, Kathy of FlipFlopOGram.

About three years ago my friend Carol told me she went to a party at someones house, I was half listening. Women by me, in the "burbs", have a party a week whether it be Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef or whatever I receive on average 4-6 "house party" invites a month. Carol then told me it was flip flops. I couldn't contain myself and we decided to host a party.

Kathy arrived on the Thursday of Memorial Day Weekend with about 100 pairs of flip flops and sandals. We had more then 40 women and it was a huge success. Everyone that was there said it was the BEST "party" they had attended. I have attended two others and I had a great time at each one. A few weeks ago I went to Vanessa's, I picked up a pair for me and a pair for my husband. We are planning on doing a party this summer at the beach. I will be bringing a tent, we can't wait and neither can our friends!

The story behind Kathy is so interesting. She was a single mother of twins, doing everything to make ends meet. She comes from a family of business owners, she dabbled in bookkeeping for the family business while selling Partylite at night. Prior to all of that, Kathy owned two children's clothing stores before getting in the flip flop biz and also went to school to be a teacher. Knowing it was going to be difficult to keep up with all the running around and with child #3 on the way, FlipFlopOGram seemed like the perfect opportunity. She came up with this idea with her former partner sitting at a play date trying to figure out how to make money and still be around for her children. Kathy is married to her "high school crush" who turns out to be her best friend as well.

Now six flip flop selling seasons later, it's just Kathy, (she bought the company from her partner). The party business is going strong with 2-3 parties a week from March-September where she brings 100's of flip flops into peoples homes for ladies to "test drive" and purchase. The website is promoting the parties and doing some brisk business itself and now within the next few months Kathy's twins who are now freshman in college will be selling flip flops out of their brand new FlipFlopOGram truck. It's almost a 24/7 business but she gets to work it around family time. They have had many people ask about doing this as a "party plan" and they are trying to work out the logistics for anyone who might be interested.

I got to ask Kathy a few questions about this exciting business, that is being promoted right up there in the upper right corner of our DRL site. That's Kathy's ad! Check out her site! You get to her link directly from that ad.

How far will you travel to do a party?
I have traveled from Wading River to Whitestone, New York. Every summer I go a little further than I'd swore I'd go so...

Can you do an online party for our readers that don't live in the New York area?
Absolutely! We do E-parties where the hostess has a her friends shop our website during a designated time period and she receives a % in free merchandise.

Check out Kathy's Facebook Fan Page, be sure to like it when you are there!
She also has a Group Page on Facebook too - check it out!

Contact Kathy to schedule a date for YOUR party! It will be one your friends will talk about forever!

WANNA LAUGH?!?! ...The Late Show - Rated M for Mature

Tony Walker

A few months after his parents divorced, Johnny was walking past his mom's room & accidentally spots mom naked & rubbing herself while yelling, "I need a man, I need a man!"

Over the next few months Johnny sees mom doing this several times.

One day he comes home from school, peaks in moms room, & sees some man on top of his mom.

Little Johnny then runs into his room, takes off his clothes, starts touching himself while yelling, "I need a bike, I need a bike!"

PASSOVER

The Origination of Passover

Moses had been instructed to lead God's people out of Egypt and save them from the evil and ungodly Pharaoh. Because of Pharaoh's disbelief in the power of the One True God, Yahweh sent a series of ten plagues upon the Egyptians: the Nile turned to blood and at various times the land was filled with frogs, gnats, flies, hail, locusts, and darkness. In one awesome act of God's ultimate authority, He sent one final devastating plague: every firstborn of every household would be annihilated.

In His mercy towards His people, God would shield the Israelites from such unmerciful judgement if they would follow the instructions He gave to Moses and Aaron. The specific instructions are outlined in Exodus 12:1-11. In sum, each family was to take a lamb and all households were to slaughter their lambs at the same time at twilight after a certain number of days. Then they were commanded to paint the sides and top of their doorways with some of this blood. Once this was done and all the meat of the lamb was eaten in accordance with God's instructions, God would spare the Israelites from death. This is what the Lord said:

"On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn -- both men and animals -- and I will bring judgement on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord -- a lasting ordinance" (Exodus 12:12-14).

Accounts of what happened can be found in all four gospels -- Matthew 26:17-27:10; Mark 14:12-72; Luke 22:1-65; John 13:1-18:27.

Sedar
The Seder meal consists of six highly symbolic elements: matzah, a roasted shank bone, parsley or green herbs, the top of a horseradish, charoset, and an egg. On each plate are three piece of matzah. Two of these pieces represent the traditional loaves used in the ancient Temple during festivals and the third piece symbolizes Passover. The roasted lamb bone connotes the sacrificial Passover lamb. Herbs symbolize springtime growth. The horseradish represents the bitter years of slavery in Egypt; charoset, a mixture of fruit and ground nuts soaked in wine, represents the mortar used in Egypt; and the egg represents the chagigah.

TV LAND AWARDS

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

The 2011 TV Land Awards took place not in California, but for the first time in New York City. The show was aired last night and honored the casts of The Cosby Show, Welcome Back Kotter, The Facts of Life and Family Ties. Huge stars like John Trevolta, Michael J. Fox, and Meredith Baxter (who still looks great!) were on hand to celebrate. Regis Philbin was also present to accept the Legend Award. The Music Icon Award was given to Hall and Oates who performed some of their greatest hits.

As the many stars of these shows were reunited on stage, I thought back to the days when we all sat in front of our little TV’s to watch Vinnie Barberino and the sweat hogs learn life's lessons from Mr. Kotter. It made me wonder how many kids today will never know the pleasures we enjoyed in shows like I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Dick Van Dyke show and so many more. There was no bloodshed, sex, serious crime, or tragic death on these shows, yet we couldn’t wait for the next episode.

STICKER SHOCK!

Dawn Boyle

Well it happened. Seems like over night the prices of gas has soared to over $4.00 a gallon. The all time high was two years ago in July when it topped at $4.41. We will see that and probably raise it. Rumors are buzzing that we will hit $5.00 a gallon by the time summer is in full swing.

Why isn't our government opening up our reserves? Why aren't we drilling off our shores? Why is it that any chance of the economy bouncing back has been destroyed by the disturbance in the Middle East?

I am heading Upstate today for Passover. I drive through Jersey for about 20 minutes. I will be filling up there, for some reason they are about 50 cents cheaper a gallon!

New websites are popping up all over trying to help the consumer, check out gasbuddy!
