In reacting to Tony's He Said... I must say, there is a difference between a mothers love and that of a father. I put my children before myself, sometimes to a fault. I would go without to make sure they have all they need. Not all mothers are the same, but I can name off the top of my head about 5 "dads" I know personally that take care of themself before doing anything for their children.
This story seems to me like this kid got a real raw deal. The mother never visited him after the father got custody and now the kids dad splits and leave him alone? Come on!! There are so many people in the world that would love to have children, yet it seems like more and more we are hearing horrible stories about abuse, neglect and even worse.
I understand what you're are saying about hard times and thinking that maybe the kid would be better off without him, but there are other ways to deal with "foreclosure" then by dumping you kid on some random neighbor. I guess it could've been worse, in fact the kid is probably lucky that the "father" ran away.
Just amazes me how many people have kids and then discard them like they are garbage.

HE SAID....
Tony Walker
My guess is that most people who have heard the story about the man who left his 11 year boy would be outraged and would want to hang the father by his short hairs.
I completely understand that feeling.
My father split on me when my mother was pregnant with me. I met him one time when I was 5, and when I was 10 my father was killed in a motorcycle accident.
So when I hear about father's not being there for their children I do get mad.
But this story hit me differently.
In the world we currently live in where the economy is crap, there are no jobs, and people are losing their homes, people feel beaten. Some don't know what to do. Some get desperate. I'm sure most of you have been affected by this economy one way or another like I have.
Some of you also know the emotional pain of dealing with something like an illness. Emotionally you are drained and desperate.
I'll admit that during my lowest times with cancer I tried telling my family to get lost. You feel guilty for putting your family through such a horrible ordeal.
This story is somewhat new and we don't know all the details.... but so far it looks to me like just a guy whose life is at a real bad place and he feels his son would be better off without him.
I am by no means justifying this guy leaving his boy. I've learned from my ups and downs that no matter what happens, your family wants to stay with you. No one replaces your family.
But I feel sad for this man. He's lost and doesn't know where to turn. My hope is that the authorities find him, he does his time for what he did, then ends up back on his feet where he can restore his relationship with his son. How great would it be 5, 10, 20 years from now to be writing on The Lounge-"Remember that story about the man who left his boy? Well guess who rebuilt his life and regained custody of the boy?"
If you haven't heard the story, here is the link to read for yourself...let me know how you feel.

IN VOGUE??
| Photo-Vogue Paris |
This morning this story about a ten year old model who graced the pages of Vogue Paris in what some would call inappropriate clothing, makeup, etc. is all over the place.
From what I understand, Tom Ford directed this layout a year ago, wherein he had young models playing "dress up". It is alleged that a major shake up at the fashion bible headquarters occurred due to this layout.
Last week Good Morning America did an expose on the year old scandal revisiting what they are calling the sexualisation of young girls in fashion causing the parents of the young model to shut down a fan page to minimize the buzz that they were shielding their child.
Tell us what you think. Have a line been crossed? Are there any boundaries in the fashion world? Are the childs parents responsible in any way or Vogue Paris, itself for some sort of child pornography?
SPEAK OUT HERE!!

Toddler Killed by Python : Justice for Shaianna
Marion Pellicano Ambrose
A few months ago I wrote a story for Paranormal Pub called “The Pet Python”. http://delayedreactionlounge.blogspot.com/2011/05/pet-python.html
Never in a million years would I have believed I’d see the same title as a news headline with an innocent, toddler for a victim!
| Officials remove the 8 foot python that killed a two year old |
Tragically, 2-year-old Shaianna Hare was strangled Wednesday by her family's 8-foot-long pet Burmese python. Shaianna was already dead when paramedics arrived at about 10 a.m. according to Lt. Bobby Caruthers of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Charles Jason Darnell, 32, the snake's owner and boyfriend of the child’s mother, said he discovered the snake missing from its terrarium and ran to the toddler’s room, where he found the snake wrapped around her. Darnell said he stabbed the snake several times until he was able to pry the child away while someone else called 911.
"The baby's dead!" the sobbing caller from the house screamed to a 911 dispatcher in a recording. "Our stupid snake got out in the middle of the night and strangled the baby." "She got out of the cage last night and got into the baby's crib and strangled her to death," the caller said.
Authorities removed the snake from the home Wednesday afternoon. Once outside, the snake was placed in a bag and placed inside a dog crate. The snake was still alive.
"It's a tragedy," Sumter County Sheriff Lt. Bobby Caruthers said outside the home. Authorities said it's "a definite possibility" that the python may have been trying to ingest the girl. Blood was found on the mattress and teeth marks were found on her head.
Darnell did not have a permit for the snake, which would be a second-degree misdemeanor, according to Joy Hill, a spokeswoman with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The snake was said to be malnourished, weighing only 13 and a half pounds, when a full grown python should weigh 140. Officials believe the snake had not been fed in over a month.
The Humane Society of the United States said including Wednesday’s death, at least 12 people have been killed in the U.S. by pet pythons since 1980, including five children.
On Thursday, a Florida jury found Jaren Hare and Charles "Jason" Darnell guilty in the python strangling death of Hare's 2-year-old daughter, Shaianna. The couple was found guilty of all charges, including third-degree murder, manslaughter and child neglect. Hare and Darnell could be sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Pythons are not native to Florida, but some residents keep them as pets, especially Burmese pythons, which can grow to more than 15 feet and weigh more than 150 pounds. When the snakes become too large, some owners release them into the Everglades and other wild areas, Florida officials say. One killed an alligator and then burst when it tried to eat it.
"It's becoming more and more of a problem, perhaps no fault of the animal, more a fault of the human," said Jorge Pino, a state wildlife commission spokesman. "People purchase these animals when they're small. When they grow, they either can't control them or release them."
The fast-growing population of snakes has been invading southern Florida's ecosystem since 1992, when scientists speculate a bevy of Burmese pythons was released into the wild after Hurricane Andrew shattered many pet shop terrariums. Scientists don't have an accurate estimate of how many pythons are in Florida, but estimates range from thousands to hundreds of thousands.

So here’s what we want to know:
*Do you believe the jury was correct in throwing the book at these parents and finding them guilty of murder, manslaughter and child neglect?
*Do you think the perceived lack of justice in the Casey Anthony case had anything to do with this jury’s decision?
*If you disagree with this jury’s verdict, what would your verdict have been?
