For me, moving from the east coast to the western desert of the United States was quite a change in landscape and attitude. Walking down the street of Las Vegas Blvd. and seeing guys wearing handguns around their waist made me realize that it was very different from the streets of New York. Knowing the history of the western desert and the many sightings of UFO's, I was excited about the chance to witness one for myself. I would often spend many nights just looking up into the desert night hoping for the chance to see what so many others had done so over the years.

There was this couple that had been married for 20 years. Every time they made love the husband always insisted on shutting off the light. Well, after 20 years the wife felt this was ridiculous. She figured she would break him out of this crazy habit. So one night, while they were in the middle of a wild, screaming, romantic session, she turned on the lights. She looked down and saw her husband was holding a battery-operated leisure device... a vibrator! Soft, wonderful and larger than a real one. She went completely ballistic. "You impotent bastard," she screamed at him, "how could you be lying to me all of these years? You better explain yourself!" .... The husband looks her straight in the eyes and says calmly, "I'll explain the toy . . . you explain the kids."

KILLER STORMS

One of the most powerful storm systems to hit the South in 40 years killed at least 267 people, (with that count rising every hour) and injuring hundreds more. It has destroyed property and downed trees from Mississippi to North Carolina over the past two days. Hundreds of homes were flattened by more than 100 tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.  Alabama has been hardest hit and some states have been declared to be in a "STATE OF EMERGENCY".


Please take a moment and think of the people who have been affected and their families.  We at DRL offer our thoughts and prayers - we hope you will lift your voices with ours for all those whose lives have forever been changed by this horrific tragedy. 

THE END OF SPACE TRAVEL

The White House announced that President Barack Obama and the First Family plan to attend the launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour on Friday April 29^th. This will be the second to last mission for the cancelled shuttle program. The commander of the mission, Mark Kelly, wish of hoping his wife Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will be able to attend the lift off looks promising. Giffords was shot through the head in January and has reportedly made amazing progress and may attend.  The Congresswoman, who served on the House Science and Technology Committee and took on NASA affairs while heading the space subcommittee, had made repeated attempts in the past to have the President attend a launch, but to no avail. When she was told he would be present on the 29^th she was said to have smiled and said “Awesome”.

Whether the people of the Space Coast and NASA employees will be as pleased at the President’s visit remains to be seen. United Space Alliance, who is the primary contractor for the shuttle, announced that 2,000 workers have been laid off. A total of 7,000 workers at Kennedy Space Center are expected to lose their jobs after the launch of the last shuttle, Atlantis, in June. When the President visited KSC about a year ago, he pledged to spend $40 million to provide new jobs for laid off shuttle workers. Unfortunately, funding is now uncertain as Congress and President Obama enact the recent budget deal that will fund the Federal Government through September. It looks like we’ll be hitching a ride with the Russians if we hope to continue participation in the work at the International Space Station.

These are the folks that couldn't get the budget out - are about to control your health care, cap and trade, etc., the list goes on and on….

GIVING CONCESSIONS - THE NEW "IT" THING TO DO

If you read the newspapers or watch the news one topic that's being discussed everyday lately is union givebacks.... teachers, state workers, etc.... concessions, freezes, etc. It's got me shakin' my head!

When did concessions become the "it" thing to do?

This world gets scarier and scarier everyday. Why are concessions being the acceptable road? Why are hard working people expected to give concessions? We all fought hard for what we have. Now we have to fight about what we're giving back???

This line of thinking is what made paying for medical care acceptable. Remember when we didn't have to pay for medical benefits? It wasn't that long ago!!

WICKED HIGH TAXES

A recent study has revealed that Nassau County, New York has the highest taxes in the nation. The study done by the Tax Foundation found that the median Nassau taxpayer shells out about $8,400 a year in property taxes. Suffolk County, New York is 12th on the list with the average taxpayer shelling out about $7,000. Officials say the amount is so high because the biggest factor is school taxes.

Are they trying to drive us off the Island?

My monthly mortgage payment is $3,200.00 for a 1,200 square foot 3 bedroom 2 bath split. I sit on a postage stamp of parcel at 80'x100'. It costs my family of four on average $170. a week in groceries, $160 a month for cable/internet, $200 for four cell phones, $200 a month for car insurance on our two vehicles, $100 for water every three months, $38 a month for garbage pick up, $360 a month for LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) and National Grid. Our extras are $135 for life insurance, $300 for a car lease, $170 a month for drama $200 for miscellaneous credit cards. That totals over $5,800 and we have not left the house yet.

How are people going to survive with tax increases, the price of gas sky rocketing and job layoffs? The amount of taxes we pay each year for the school is insane, but for some reason our teachers have to request classroom necessities 3 times a year for both my children. Programs are getting cut left and right but there is some idiot we all voted into office working three days a month and getting paid $100,000 a year.

It's time to wake up! We need to do something and do it fast! Stop helping foreign countries and help our own NOW! I have at least two friends who's homes are in foreclosure, they are hard working families who can not catch a break. Oh and by the way...my taxes are higher then $8,400 by about $2,000. If you think about how many people are paying $10,000 a year in property taxes it is mind blowing!  I should be living in a ocean front mansion...not the closet I call home.

WANNA LAUGH?!?!?!

Murph was about to tee off on the golf course when he feels a tap on his shoulder. There is a man standing there who hands Murph a note that reads, "I am a deaf mute. May I play through please?"

Murph communicates to the man that he may NOT play through and that his disability has nothing to do with playing golf.

So Murph begins to play. He whacks his first ball right onto the green. Just as he is about to sink that ball into the hole he is hit in the head with a golf ball, laying him out cold.

When he comes to a few minutes later, he looks around and sees the deaf mute sternly looking at him, one hand on his hip, the other holding up four fingers.
