Lunch Time Poll

Marion Pellicano Ambrose
OK, So I’ve been playing the Florida Lottery every week since it started in 1988!  I’ve played my family’s birthdays, anniversaries, favorite numbers and the numbers I found in my fortune cookie! So far: NOTHING!  Oh, I won $5.00 here and there (mostly there), but nothing significant. I began to think of how much I’ve spent over the years. I don’t want to mention the exact amount, but let’s just say I could probably retire comfortably had I invested that amount in an annuity! So, after reasoning all this out, I’ll quit buying tickets and start saving that money, right?
Actually, no!  I can’t give up on the dream! I fantasize about secretly paying off the mortgages of my family and friends, of paying tuition for students whose parents just can’t afford it anymore, and taking all my friends and family members on a fabulous European cruise!  I love to think of the look on the face of cashier at 7-11 who sold me the ticket when I give her a check for thousands of dollars! Of course, I’d invest and put enough away for the future, but my husband will be so thrilled when I surprise him with his own barn/ garage/ workshop filled with antique cars! (Like Jay Leno’s) So, I’ve researched the most commonly drawn numbers, my horoscope, cracked open a few fortune cookies and here I go again! Wish me luck!
What do you dream about doing with the money if you were to win BIG in your state lottery? Would you keep it a secret or parade through town in a limo showing everyone your good fortune?  Tell us what you would do if you won the lottery!

He Said....

Tony Walker
Many of my "He Saids" are sexual in nature. Many of my "He Saids" go for the shock value. Well this week's "He Said" is sexual in nature but no shock value in this one. This week I have one simple question.
Why do some women say no when they really mean yes?
I was once in a relationship with a woman who said no all the time & really made me work to get the prize. Meanwhile she was ready to go very early on.
Even my wife says no a thousand times before she surrenders to my begging like a dog who hasn't been fed in 3 days.
My problem is I don't have the ability to take the bait & walk away when turned down. If I called the bluff maybe she would grab me & let me in. But I just can't do it. I just keep on begging like a little boy in a toy store whose mom won't buy him something. "Please!! PLEASE!! I won't ask again for 3 months! I'll be nice to you tomorrow! I'll eat all my veggies without complaining!! PLEASE!!!!!!"
Do some women like to watch men work & work? (sickos!!)
Do some women really require that much work before they are ready to go?
Do some women think it's a flirtatious thing by playing hard to get?
Is it all of the above?
Well let me tell you women something... stop it!!
Tell us what you think. If you are a woman who says no all the time, even when you are a definite yes, please tell us why you do that.

SHE SAID... WHERE WAS OLD GLORY?

Marion Pellicano Ambrose
Yesterday was Memorial Day. It was the day to show our respect and appreciation for those who paid the price for our freedom, to honor our military for their bravery and dedication. It was a day to proudly fly the American Flag!
So where were all the flags? I drove up and down streets all over town and saw only a handful of homes with flags displayed.  I was pleased to see that our city did display flags down the main thoroughfare, but as for individual homes, I was greatly disappointed.
After 9-11 you couldn’t turn a corner without seeing Old Glory from every porch or flagpole in the yard of every home. The sense of patriotism and pride was strong and we thought, acted and lived unified as Americans.  Today, the sad fact is that we’ve allowed ourselves to become divided by ideologies, politics, and who knows what else.
Why are we so fickle? Why can’t we put all these things aside and agree to disagree on some things but agree that we are all Americans and proud of that fact? We can all agree that our country is great, that the men and women of our Military deserve our thanks and respect, that every human being should be treated equally and have the same opportunities, and that each one of us has the potential to make a difference. If we can agree on all that, than we should agree to celebrate our country and its holidays with more than Barbeques, beach parties and beer bashes! Get that flag up and show your pride!
Proud to be an American, proud to be married to a Navy Veteran!
What do you think? Were the flags flying in your neighborhood this Memorial Day?

EATERY IS OPEN FOR MEMORIAL DAY - Patriotic Flag Cake

Marion Pellicano Ambrose
Want a super easy but star studded dessert for Memorial Day? Try this Patriotic Flag cake. There are several variations to please every dessert lover!

You can buy a flag shaped pan like mine, or simply use a rectangular pan. Either way, people will love your patriotic spirit!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray pan with Baker’s Secret or grease and flour.

Ingredients:
1 box vanilla cake mix
4 egg whites
1/3 cup oil
1/3 cup sour cream
1 cup water
Mix all ingredients, pour into pan a and bake for 30 – 40 minutes or until golden brown and cake springs back to touch. Cool for 20 minutes then invert on platter.

Icing:
50 fresh blueberries, 2 pints fresh raspberries, 1 can vanilla icing, 1 cup cool whip.
Mix canned icing and cool whip well. Frost cake and put remaining icing in a pastry tube. Place 50 blueberries on left top corner of cake (10 across , 5 down). Place raspberries to represent red stripes. In the “in between” rows, pipe white icing florettes for the white stripes. Pipe a border around the entire base of the cake. Chill before serving.
* My favorite variation: Use devil's food cake mix instead of white and replace fresh raspberries with Cherry Pie Filling!
Happy Memorial Day!

IN MEMORY OF ALL LOST ANGELS

Marion Pellicano Ambrose
This week we remember babies born asleep or whom we have
carried but never met, those we have held but could not take home, or the ones who made it home but didn't stay. We pray for all who have suffered the loss of a baby. It is a lossfrom which  that one never truly recovers and certainly never forgets. It means a lifetime of wondering about lost moments and unfulfilled potential; a lifetime of speaking to your baby and knowing that someday you will hold that child in your arms.
The loss of a baby is not spoken about. You're expected to snap right back to "normal" and "get on"with life. Words like "You can always have another baby." or "Maybe "it" was going to be born with problems so God was sparing you." are meant to be helpful but cut like a knife.
I pray that anyone who experiences this heartwrenching tragedy will be permitted to mourn their loss; that people will not minimize or shove under the carpet the severity of the pain and suffering of the mother AND the father, and that God will bless all those who have given back to Him a most beloved baby, born or unborn.

SUNDAY TRIVIA - Inspired by Memorial Day

Did you know...

Memorial Day was first called “Decoration Day” because of the practice of decorating soldier’s graves with flowers.

The cultural beginning of summer is associated with Memorial Day, although the official solstice is actually in June. Many people use the weekend to plant flowers or to take a vacation. This cultural summer season traditionally lasts until Labor Day which is the first Monday of September.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of those who have died serving our country.

The Indianapolis 500 has been held on Memorial Day weekend since 1911
