PARANORMAL PUB : MAD HENRY

Mad Henry was a hermit who lived alone in a decrepit mansion at the edge of town.  Rumors were rife about the wild-eyed man.  Some folks said that he was a magician who called upon the powers of darkness to wreck havoc upon his neighbors.  Others called him a mad doctor who could restore life to foul corpses from the local cemetery.  No respectable citizen in town had anything to do with Mad Henry.
Then, one day, a new family moved to town with a lovely daughter, Rachel, who caught Mad Henry’s eye. He showered the maiden with gifts—goblets of pure gold, necklaces of pearl, and a pot of daisies that never dropped a single petal. Despite the gifts, Rachael fell in love with another, Geoffrey, a handsome young man just home from university. A week after meeting they eloped, leaving behind a stunned Mad Henry.
When Rachael and Geoffrey returned from the elopement, they threw a big ball and invited everyone in town. While Rachel was waltzing with her father, she heard a  clap of thunder. Lightning flashed again and again. Suddenly, the double doors blew open and a breeze whirled in, bringing with it the smell of dead, decaying things. Mad Henry loomed in the doorway, pupils gleaming red with anger. He was followed by the grotesque figures of the dead, who came marching two by two into the room. Their eye sockets glowed with blue fire as they surrounded the room.
Two of the corpses captured Geoffrey and threw him down at the feet of their lord. Red eyes gleaming, Mad Henry drew a silver-bladed knife and casually cut the bridegroom’s throat from ear to ear. Rachel screamed and ran forward, pushing through the foul, stinking corpses of the dead, and flung herself upon her dying husband.
“Kill us both,” she cried desperately.

PARANORMAL PUB: THE TORSO MURDERS

A True Story Retold by Marion Pellicano Ambrose
Along the banks of the Cuyahoga River which runs through Cleveland’s East Side, was Kingsbury Run. The Run was a shantytown during the Depression and was the site of one of America’s most famous unsolved crimes : The Torso Murders.
Between the years of 1935 – 1938, 13 victims were murdered. Each one was decapitated and most were dismembered. The body parts were found strewn about Kingsbury Run and were believed to be hobos, prostitutes, transients, and other residents of shantytown.
The murders finally ended in 1938 when the famous Elliott Ness burned the shacks of shantytown to the ground. A man named Frank Dolezal was charged with the crimes but died under mysterious circumstances before he was able to be brought to trial. People believed that the real killer was a member of a wealthy, influential family who committed himself to a mental institution after the burning of shantytown.  It was from this killer that Elliott Ness received taunting postcards. The murders and the postcards haunted Ness for the rest of his life, leading him into a downward spiral of alcohol and debt.  Many believe that Elliott Ness was the 14th victim!

JILLIAN B HART... ARE YOU HUNGRY?

“The greatest boundaries that we face in our lives are very often the ones
we ourselves create in our minds."  —  Ellyn Spragins
Can right and wrong get mixed up?  Is there a time and place to blur the lines? Cross the line? Is life always as simple as black and white --- when you see endless shades of gray?

Is there a dream or a fantasy that you hide in your heart, that if opportunity presented itself you would act on it? Doesn't everyone have one or more of those tucked away somewhere?  (Are you fooling yourself if you are shaking your head no as you read this post.)  That secret - never shared, like some taboo topic that is avoided at all costs.  An honesty perhaps not even obvious or admitted to yourself.

Honesty, integrity and self esteem weigh heavily on the success of many relationships.  But, relationships change.  People change. Passion fades.  Distance grows.  Sex can be an action without an emotional reaction. Lovers can become more like housemates.  Life is not static.  Yet so often the most important relationship in your life is.  It stops growing.  You stop dreaming. Would acting on a fantasy help or harbor the union? Does a happier "you", make for a better "we"? Do the rules change if there is an act of promiscuous nature involved? If it stays in your head and heart is it okay, is there no harm done? A one night stand can be written off and forgiven whereas something with a history or connection means game over. Is an emotional attachment a means to justify or make matters worse? What if no one ever knew? Acting on a fantasy could feed and fuel your libido, whereas the opposite may forever starve your soul.  Can carnal desires or something unfinished ever completely be snuffed out? Is sex ever really just sex?

Deanna Verbouwens - Happiness is…

*My four year old pummeling me with hugs when I come home from work.

*When my husband does the dishes…without a nudge (it happens a lot!).

*My seven year old kissing me good morning, without fail every morning!

*Knowing that I still have the mental strength to run 6 miles with relative ease.

*When support pops up in the least expected places.

Can I Have A Life Line?
By Deanna Verbouwens
Oh…my friends!! I love them to death, I have a handful of best friends that I rely on – maybe way too much but rely on them I do. I can count my closest friends on two hands, I tell some more than others, some know everything about me…maybe more than I know about me. I value, love, and hold my friends in the highest regards. I’ve disappointed some, I’ve divorced a few, and some are still hanging around. I will say my piece with respect and honor their wishes, I will support them and never judge, sometimes - in my humblest of opinions I will let them know that I think they are wrong. I will keep secrets that I may not want to keep, I will let them vent, cry and make them laugh even if it means I have to moon them (yeah, picture mooning your friends with a piece of toilet paper stuck in your ass!). They are my friends. They make me pee my pants with laughter, they lend a shoulder when it’s needed, they call, and come running without being asked – they just know what to do – because they are my friends.

I’m not sure where I learned to be a friend - they say you mimic your parents/guardians behavior but that wasn’t the case for me. You hear that some woman crawled under the tables of the weekly bridge games listening to their mother and her friends talking about the neighbors, teachers or husbands, or perhaps they remember them sitting poolside drinking a cocktail while all the kids horsed around in the pool, or maybe even remember the monthly pot-luck dinners. That didn’t happen with my mom, I feel I barely knew my mom’s friends. My mother did have a strong circle of friends however; I rarely got to see my mom in action with them, my parents moved to Long Island and most of my mom’s friends stayed in the City (Brooklyn or Queens). I did witness my mom befriend the neighborhood moms and she is still very close with one, however, my mom had five children and rarely made the time for herself, that coupled with my dad being sick ...well, you get the picture. I love that my mom now makes the effort to attend a weekly card game with the gals from her old job, when she gets the chance - she still see’s her girls from back-in-the-day and even goes to lunch with the one neighborhood mom almost every month.

I am not sure if friendships weren’t that important to my mom or if she just put them on hold until she had the time to make for herself and her friends. Whatever the reason, I implore all woman to make friends whether you make one at work, through your kids or it’s one from kindergarten – if you have the connection – nurture that friendship. Every girl needs one friend she can rely on. I’m nothing without my friends – they are my rock, my comfort and my life-line – I am lucky I have many.

PREPARING FOR A MAMMOGRAM

Marion Pellicano Ambrose
It's time for me to go for my annual Mammogram again. It's really an easy thing to do so I don't know why I used to put it off all the time. I remembered this advice I found a few years ago that made me feel so much better and at ease about it.

Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there's no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam, and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared. And you can do this right in your own home!

Yes, I did have my mammogram today, why do you ask?

Exercise 1:
Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast between the door and the main box. Have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut and lean on the door for good measure. Hold that position for five seconds (while you hold your breath). Repeat again, in case the first time wasn't effective enough.

HUG IT OUT
I am in inadequate hugger when my children need it most, and I need an intervention. It’s just not a natural instinct for me to hug them when they fall or get hurt. I can hug the sh*t out of them in a normal environment, cuddle up watching TV, reading a book, tickle them and kiss them up until they tell me to stop but once the hurt starts, the tears start flowing my initial reaction is “Get over it” or “Shake it Off”. It literally takes my brain a few seconds to activate the” Oh, shit I should probably hug them” brain cell. It’s like my brain’s defibrillator needs to be fine-tuned because now those shocks are coming in at a turtle’s speed and it ain’t doing nothing for me. It shouldn’t take a good 5-to-15 seconds for my brain to register comfort, hugs, love… but it does.

The littlest bugger pummeled Richie and smacked the crap out of him with a plastic elephant, which I know hurt, it had too; there was no way it couldn’t. What did I do? I turned around, and walked to the kitchen, than a full 15 seconds later it registered that the poor little guy must be in pain. I know, I know, I am SO getting Mother of Year award, the plaque is being engraved and I believe it’s being shipped out as I write this. What’s wrong me with me? I am really trying to figure this one out as I’ve noticed in recent weeks that my response rate to any injury is terrible, thank goodness I am not employed by EMS. I shudder thinking about those poor people I would have let down, I would have been fired. I wonder if my children notice that I let them cry it out instead of running to their aid. I am actually training myself to stop what I am doing the minute I hear the hurt happen and go to their aid; it’s hard, very hard. I mean, I just had to stop writing this wonderful blog to comfort Richie. The two-year old with full force, with the fire in his eyes, his little body moving so fast it looked like his feet were flying, grunting like a weight lifter from one end of the basement to the other sacked Richie as if he was a linebacker for the New York Giants. Knocked the crap out of him. Richie didn’t know what hit him; the poor little bugger looked like he got knocked out by Tyson, but thankfully he still had his ear.

Marion Pellicano Ambrose... NO WOMEN ALLOWED!

Dr. Pepper has come out with a new soft drink: Dr. Pepper 10: For Men Only! The can is designed for men with gunmetal grey and silver bullets, contains some sugar and has 10 calories. I imagine the sugar is to keep it from being categorized “diet” which is unmanly! The new drink even has its own Facebook page, which contains an application that allows it to exclude women from viewing content, which includes games and videos aimed at being "manly." For instance, there's a shooting gallery where you shoot things like high heels and lipstick. There is also a "man quiz" with questions on activities like fishing and hunting. The page also lists the Dr. Pepper Man’ments! See a few for yourself:

WHITE LADY: A NEW YORK GHOST STORY

A New York Ghost Story
Retold by S. E. Schlosser
In the early 1800s, the White Lady and her daughter were supposed to have lived on the land where the Durand Eastman Park -- part of Irondequoit and Rochester -- now stands. One day, the daughter disappeared. Convinced that the girl had been raped and murdered by a local farmer, the mother searched the marshy lands day after day, trying to discover where her child's body was buried. She took with her two German shepherd dogs to aid in her search, but she never found a trace of her daughter. Finally, in her grief, the mother threw herself off a cliff into lake Ontario and died. Her dogs pined for their mistress and shortly joined her in the grave.

After death, the mother's spirit returned to continue the search for her child. People say that on foggy nights, the White Lady rises from the small Durand Lake which faces Lake Ontario. She is accompanied by her dogs and together they roam through the Durand Eastman park, still searching for her missing daughter.

The White Lady is not a friendly spirit. She dislikes men and often seeks vengeance against the males visiting the park on her daughter's behalf . There have been reports of the White Lady chasing men into the lake, shaking their cars, and making their lives miserable until they leave the park. She has never touched any females accompanying these unfortunate fellows.
