COCONUT OIL...BEST ANTI AGING SERUM

Traditional healers hold the coconut in such high regard that the coconut is commonly given the title "Tree of Life" in the Philippines. Coconut oil works wonders for burns, cuts, bruises, and speeds the healing while it fights infection. Coconut oil forms a protective barrier to hold in moisture also penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin to helping to keep connective tissues strong and supple. Coconut oil is readily absorbed into the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It aids in exfoliating the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother. Coconut oil is used to treat dry and damaged hair and as a lathering ingredient for natural shampoos and soaps.

Coconut oil can be used to fry foods, make a healthier mayonnaise, and used in baking. When you make pastries, substitute 50% coconut oil for whatever fat is recommended. There is no mistaking the wonderful benefits of coconut oil, however there is no little controversy on how coconut oil effects a heart healthy diet.

There are numerous claims that adding coconut oil to your diet increases energy, balances hormones, and stimulates the thyroid gland. The cholesterol-lowering properties of coconut oil are linked directly to this ability to stimulate thyroid function. Coconut oil raises your metabolic rate, helping to release energy and promote weight loss. Researchers believe that coconut oil is different from other saturated fats because it is composed of medium-chain fatty acids.  Try coconut oil for yourself, with an open mind, to see what effects it has for you.

MAN FINDS MOUSE IN MOUNTAIN DEW, AND THAT'S NOT THE WORST PART!

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

It’s a disgusting thought that someone might find a mouse in a can of Mountain Dew Soda, but that’s exactly what Roland Ball from Illinois is claiming. Ball is suing Pepsi over the alleged mouse found in a can he purchased in November of 2009.

Pepsi rejects the claim, saying that the acid in the Mountain Dew would have disintegrated the mouse’s body. Now THAT is even more disgusting! I’ve heard stories that Coke can dissolve a nail or strip a penny, and that didn’t stop me from drinking my Diet Coke several times a day, but somehow knowing that there is enough acid to melt a mouse, well, it makes me think I should be switching to water!

I did a little research and “Life Science” (http://www.livescience.com/7198-acids-popular-sodas-erode-tooth-enamel.html) reported about a study done on soft drinks and their effect on tooth enamel due to acid levels. They found that :

“The erosive potential of colas is 10 times that of fruit juices in just the first three minutes of drinking, a study last year showed. The latest research, published in Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) journal General Dentistry, reports that drinking any type of soft drink hurts teeth due to the citric acid and/or phosphoric acid in the beverages.”
RC Cola was found to be the most acidic soft drink studied, with a pH of 2.387 (the pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 for most liquids, with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the least acidic—or most alkaline). Cherry Coke was found to be the next most acidic (pH of 2.522), and Coke was the third most acidic soda tested (pH of 2.525). Battery acid has a pH of 1.0. Pure water at room temperature has a pH of 7.0. Root beer was found to be the least acidic of all soft drinks, with a pH 4.038 for the Mug brand. The reason for the reduced acidity is that root beer is often non-carbonated and contains no phosphoric or citric acids.

So knowing that my Diet Coke can damage my enamel and possibly melt a mouse, will I really give it up and replace it with all natural, life-giving, pure water? Probably not! It might kill me, but I love my Diet Coke! What about you?

TEEN MOM KILLS INTRUDER

                                                       Marion Pellicano Ambrose

An 18 year old Oklahoma woman shot and killed an intruder on New Year’s Eve. The recently widowed woman, Sarah McKinley, was home alone with her 3 month old son when 2 men tried to break in. She pushed the couch in front of the door, gave the baby a bottle, and grabbed a 12 gauge shotgun. She dialed 911 and asked the dispatcher if she could shoot the intruder.

“He was going from door to door trying to bust in” said McKinley. “I don’t know what he had in his hand besides the knife. I believe he actually had a hammer in his hand at some point because he was hitting that back door with it.”

The 911operator told McKinley that she couldn’t shoot the intruder until he was inside the house, but to do what she had to in order  to protect her baby.

When the intruder burst in, McKinley shot and killed him. He was identified as 24 year old Justin Shane Martin. His accomplice, Dustin Louis Steward, 29, ran away but was brought to the police later by his parents.

McKinley realized later that Martin was the same man that had been stalking her at a rodeo, in a local convenience store and had come to her door a few nights earlier introducing himself as a neighbor,

SHE SAID....RESOLVE

Dawn Boyle

Welcome to TWENTY-TWELVE....a new beginning, a fresh start, a page completely blank for you to paint what you want for your future. This is the time that I take to re-evaluate all aspects of my life. I have begun to reflect on the past year and really examine where I went right and where I went wrong.

For the first time I am not going to beat myself up over all the shortcomings of the past year, but actually revel in my accomplishments. To really take a long look at what my goals for the future are, only this year I am not looking at immediate gratification, but true long-term achievable goals.

Meteors and Arctic Blast!

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

Last year's Quadrantid Meteor Shower
If you were up early this morning, you might have witnessed the fireworks in the pre-dawn sky. The 2012 Quadrantid meteor shower hit its peak at around 3am and the best views were from Europe, Central Asia, and North America. This is considered one of the best meteor showers of the year with an average rate of one shooting star per minute.

The meteors put on a pretty awesome light show for those in the US who were willing to brave the chilly weather. For all of you along the eastern seaboard, you will be waking up on Wednesday to freezing temperatures. From Maine to Florida, you’ll need to bundle up.

Lows may dip into the upper 20s as far south as inland portions of South Florida. The coldest readings will be over Northern New England and northern Upstate New York, where temperatures will head below zero in some areas. Wind chills in 10s and 20s below zero are also expected in this same region.

FALLING IN LOVE ON FACEBOOK....

Tony Walker

All the time you hear about people "hooking up" through the internet, especially now with Facebook-I'm sure everyone has heard at least once about some guy & girl who dated 100 years ago & got together recently to remember those times.
Here's one that's new to me. A guy I know met a girl on Facebook through a friend of a friend of a friend. These two have never met physically, they've made comments on mutual friends' posts & got friendly through that. The two of them became Facebook friends & got to know each other. Nothing wrong with that. I know several people that way. It's nice making new friends right? Who cares how or where you met? Here's the strange part. This guy thinks he may have fallen in love with this girl. Again, they have never met physically. In fact, they're in 2 completely different parts of the Country! But they've had long conversations, actually emails & IM's... this guy doesn't even know what this woman sounds like! Yet based on their emails & IM's, he thinks he may have fallen in love with her. He also thinks that she is absolutely beautiful... which he's right about. I saw her picture. She is stunning. But is it possible to fall in love this way? He is very very confused about this. Either way, he's not going to act on it because she is married. However, based on their conversations he thinks she feels the same way.
Tell us what you think. Do you believe in this age of technology that it's possible to fall in love with someone even though you've never physically met?

National Science Fiction Day

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

Today, January 2nd, is officially celebrated as “Science Fiction Day”. The date was chosen in honor of famed Science Fiction writer, Isaac Asimov. Asimov was born in Russia in 1920, but his family immigrated to America three years later. His most famous works were The Foundation Series, the Robot Series, Nightfall, The Intelligent Man's Guide to Science, I, Robot,  and Planets for Man.

Asimov’s work inspired generations of Science Fiction fans, many of who would enter the fields of science and engineering.  Of all the awards and honors he received in his lifetime, Asimov was most proud of having his birthday chosen as the official “Science Fiction Day”.

So the question arises; How to celebrate? My suggestion is to have a Science ( You can just leave the Sci Fi channel on all day!)  Nuke something yummy for dinner and when you climb into bed tonight, take one of  Asimov’s good books with you to read.

Have a happy Science Fiction Day from your friends at DRL!
