National Science Fiction Day

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

Today, January 2nd, is officially celebrated as “Science Fiction Day”. The date was chosen in honor of famed Science Fiction writer, Isaac Asimov. Asimov was born in Russia in 1920, but his family immigrated to America three years later. His most famous works were The Foundation Series, the Robot Series, Nightfall, The Intelligent Man's Guide to Science, I, Robot,  and Planets for Man.

Asimov’s work inspired generations of Science Fiction fans, many of who would enter the fields of science and engineering.  Of all the awards and honors he received in his lifetime, Asimov was most proud of having his birthday chosen as the official “Science Fiction Day”.

So the question arises; How to celebrate? My suggestion is to have a Science ( You can just leave the Sci Fi channel on all day!)  Nuke something yummy for dinner and when you climb into bed tonight, take one of  Asimov’s good books with you to read.

Have a happy Science Fiction Day from your friends at DRL!
