GETTING ON MY FLIP FLOPS

What is a Flip Flop O Gram

Dawn Boyle

Today I was sitting outside of my house and my girlfriend Angie looked down at my toes and said..."God, do I need  a pedicure, it's almost flip flop season". I gotta tell ya, I have been wearing them since I got back from vacation on March 7th. I walked off the plane and I seriously have worn them every day. I am what you would call a FLIP FLOP whore. I have tons of them. I have expensive ones and some kicking around from Target flops. I wear them about 8 months a year. That's right, I have worn them in the snow. I love my flip flops. I even have a code I use with my girl friends "getting on my flip flops" which means I am on my way. Are you like me? If you are, I am about to introduce you to the Queen of my flip flop land, Kathy of FlipFlopOGram.

About three years ago my friend Carol told me she went to a party at someones house, I was half listening. Women by me, in the "burbs", have a party a week whether it be Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef or whatever I receive on average 4-6 "house party" invites a month. Carol then told me it was flip flops. I couldn't contain myself and we decided to host a party.

Kathy arrived on the Thursday of Memorial Day Weekend with about 100 pairs of flip flops and sandals. We had more then 40 women and it was a huge success. Everyone that was there said it was the BEST "party" they had attended. I have attended two others and I had a great time at each one. A few weeks ago I went to Vanessa's, I picked up a pair for me and a pair for my husband. We are planning on doing a party this summer at the beach. I will be bringing a tent, we can't wait and neither can our friends!

The story behind Kathy is so interesting. She was a single mother of twins, doing everything to make ends meet. She comes from a family of business owners, she dabbled in bookkeeping for the family business while selling Partylite at night. Prior to all of that, Kathy owned two children's clothing stores before getting in the flip flop biz and also went to school to be a teacher. Knowing it was going to be difficult to keep up with all the running around and with child #3 on the way, FlipFlopOGram seemed like the perfect opportunity. She came up with this idea with her former partner sitting at a play date trying to figure out how to make money and still be around for her children. Kathy is married to her "high school crush" who turns out to be her best friend as well.

Now six flip flop selling seasons later, it's just Kathy, (she bought the company from her partner). The party business is going strong with 2-3 parties a week from March-September where she brings 100's of flip flops into peoples homes for ladies to "test drive" and purchase. The website is promoting the parties and doing some brisk business itself and now within the next few months Kathy's twins who are now freshman in college will be selling flip flops out of their brand new FlipFlopOGram truck. It's almost a 24/7 business but she gets to work it around family time. They have had many people ask about doing this as a "party plan" and they are trying to work out the logistics for anyone who might be interested.

I got to ask Kathy a few questions about this exciting business, that is being promoted right up there in the upper right corner of our DRL site. That's Kathy's ad! Check out her site! You get to her link directly from that ad.

How far will you travel to do a party?
I have traveled from Wading River to Whitestone, New York. Every summer I go a little further than I'd swore I'd go so...

Can you do an online party for our readers that don't live in the New York area?
Absolutely! We do E-parties where the hostess has a her friends shop our website during a designated time period and she receives a % in free merchandise.

Check out Kathy's Facebook Fan Page, be sure to like it when you are there!
She also has a Group Page on Facebook too - check it out!

Contact Kathy to schedule a date for YOUR party! It will be one your friends will talk about forever!

THE FACEBOOK FRIEND

Tony Walker

It's Wednesday & I am feeling WICKED alright... Wicked for Boyle!!!!

I first met Boyle in the 10th grade in Mr. LaMarca's English class. God was she smokin!!! Unfortunately too smokin for a nerd like me. Boyle had all the jocks drooling for her. Why would you want a nerd (who also bordered on being a dirtbag) when you could have a jock?

So for the remainder of high school I just admired from afar. She was gorgeous, funny, witty, & gorgeous.

Then came graduation & we lost touch... we were never that close to begin with.

Fast forward 20 years. I attend my high school reunion where an old friend says that we should keep in touch through Facebook. I had no idea what Facebook was. I checked it out and found friends I hadn't seen in ages! Then I come across the name Dawn Boyle Kostadkjahldkjhis. Could it be? Is it the one & only? It is!! It's Boyle! She looks better than ever! I suddenly felt like that kid in 10th grade again.... if only I had more hair & less belly like the 10th grade kid..... she's still gorgeous, funny, witty, and gorgeous.

This time things are different. I am no longer the dirtbag nerd. Now I am a big dope. But we become friendly.... friendlier than we ever were in high school. Boyle is more awesome than ever!! Now we are great friends, she lets me ramble on her web site, I'm trying to get her involved in my business, and she has become one of my favorite people!! I need Boyle love & I need it ASAP!!!

So my Lounge Friends... I invite you to comment below & tell us why you love Boyle. Everyone needs some Boyle in their lives. Tell us why. Have you found the Boyle who was missing in your life?  Does Facebook get the credit?   Has a Facebook Friend, become more fun???? Again, comment and tell us why!

THE BLAHS

Dawn Boyle

Seems like it has been crappy out here in the northeast since early November. I am so sick and tired of the cold, rainy, windy, nasty in general weather.

I can't get out of the funk this weather produces. I didn't even make the beds in my house today...I make all the beds EVERY day for fear that if there was a fire, someone would come in and say what a slob I am because the beds were not made...I obviously know deep down inside if there was a fire they would not be concerned about the tidiness of my house, but worried about the actual fire! Similar to growing up and my mother always saying to put on clean underwear god forbid I was in an accident...an accident that I am actually in the hospital as a result probably would cause stains in my underwear any ways.

Back to my funk...my crappy weather funk...my I need some freaking Spring funk...my I should plan a girls night out freaking funk...my holy crap the kids are off next week funk...UGH!

Help me snap out of this or help me track down Mother Nature and open up a can of whoop ass on her!

SERIAL KILLER

Dawn Boyle

There is nothing as terrifying as what is going on right now on Long Island. Over the past few months there have been bodies or shall I say remains of women discarded along the roads of our beaches.

Just about a year ago a young woman who was contacted via Craigslist to come to a party in Oak Beach went missing. She was last seen running away from the home where the party was being held screaming "he is going to kill me". Late last year while searching the area 4 bodies were found wrapped in burlap approximatey 20' from the edge of Ocean Parkway.  None of which was the girl that was missing. The police have cleared the man that contacted her and threw the party.

Weeks had passed and an off duty police officer who was driving down Ocean Parkway noticed something odd, last week another body was found and this week three more, bringing a grand total of 8.

They are extending the search next week, west along the ocean and bay sides of Ocean Parkway.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the women that have fallen victim to this horrific nightmare of a person, with hopes that the Nassau and Suffolk County Police find him soon and that he be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

It is strange to think of how many times we have ran threw the brush around the beaches...it is hitting very close to home in and around my neighborhood.

When the safe and trusting feeling of a place you always visit is taken away, you never look at it through the same eyes....
