LUNCH TIME POLL

Dawn Boyle

Today's Lunch Time Poll was at the request of a reader. She is pregnant and wants to know feelings on circumcision.

Recent Medical studies show that there is no medical necessity for circumcision. However, there are many people on the fence with this subject. I read that circumcisions started in the 1800 to stop masterbation, which was belived to cause disease.

Did you have your son circumcised? Are there any males out there that are not circumcised that want to talk about how they feel about it? Do you feel that this is a form of genital mutilation? Is it a tradition that you honor or duty based on religious beliefs? As an adult do you wish your parents had chosen differently on your behalf and why?

Let us know!

THE SHAKE DOWN ON SHOPPING BAGS TO BAG OR NOT TO BAG?

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

I was watching the news last night and I couldn’t believe what the big story topic was. They were discussing whether using plastic bags could actually be better than using the reusable ones. There are several arguments against what we thought were “green” bags. Some claim that after a while they release harmful chemicals into the unpackaged food we put in them. I couldn’t find any studies or real proof to support this theory, but I have a solution anyway – put your fresh fruit and produce in a produce bag before putting them in!

A second argument is that so many companies are giving these recycle-able bags away that people are starting to have too many and throw them away. Here’s a wise and novel idea – if you have enough, don’t take any more! Just because it’s free doesn’t mean you have to take it.

IT CAN BE A WICKED, WICKED WORLD
Barbara Ward-Finneran

Most parents take the time to teach typical "Stranger Danger" safety to their little ones.  To teach them to call 911.  As they get older - To stay together when they go out.  To not follow the crowd and make responsible choices.  Parents put forth great efforts to ensure the safety of their children. Those values and lessons are expected to be learned and the parents that commit to doing these and so much more are to be commended.

It can be a wicked, wicked world and we must protect out kids.  It can be a wicked, wicked world wide web. Why do so many overlook the dangers that they invite into their own homes?  The dangers that have come with the brilliance and convenience of technology. Cyberspace, cell phones, text messages, chat rooms, instant messaging, digital and web-cams, all common place to the youth of today, yet, dare I admit,  didn't even exist when we were their ages.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF LIVING WICKED
Marion Pellicano Ambrose

When I thinking of Wicked Wednesdays, my mind wandered to a play I went to see with
my daughter in Jacksonville. My daughter had read the book and was dying to see the
Broadway play. Through the kindness of a former student and her mother, I was able to
get tickets at a discounted rate and surprised my daughter for her birthday. The play was Wicked.

DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO LAUGHED HIS A$$ OFF

Tony Walker

This past weekend was a tough one. My wife's Uncle, who is her Godfather and whom she is very close with, died suddenly. He had minor health concerns but there was nothing currently going on... this was totally out of left field.

In honor of Lisa's Uncle I'd like to share a little story.

Uncle Ted had the most loud, highest, one of a kind laugh I've ever heard. Being in the comedy business, I've heard a lot of laughs. Picture this, if you will; Alan Alda's Hawkeye Pierce mixed in with Joe Pesci and maybe a few farm animals, that was Uncle Ted's laugh.

http://WONDERFUL. WILD. WICKED

A limitless and boundary free place so clearly present in our world that many adults and children carry a gateway to this wonderful, wild, and perhaps even wicked place in their pockets...

The world wide web is a amazing source of information and entertainment.  Does it also invite danger into your home? If you have children do you take precautions to protect, limit, monitor and or block internet use?  Do you allow the minors in your care to use social networking sites? Online gaming interactions and chats? Many of which state for adults 18 and older.

Where do you draw the line in cyberspace? Thoughts & comments encouraged......

BORN FROM DARKNESS... Pamela's Story

My Journey Through OZ

Pamela Embury

As you know, we all have a story to tell, each one different yet the same. You see, we all share a common thread, something that was unwanted, and yet came anyway to invade our bodies, our lives and our souls. Bonds between breast cancer survivors are unique, it is that beautiful acceptance that is not materialistic, just pure.

My name is Pamela and at the age of 37 I knew I had breast cancer without even going to the doctors. You see, I had been fighting to get approval for mammograms and sonograms since I was 35 but because I had no family history, and was so young, they rejected my multiple requests. Finally, after two years, I was diagnosed through bilateral sonogram. I KNEW IT! To the day of my bilateral mastectomies in 2008,
my mammograms were all normal. I was that small percentage with dense breasts where mammograms would not help. I was diagnosed with left breast invasive ductal carcinoma in 2 of 3 masses with DCIS in the third. My nodes were negative. My ER/PR status were 99% each and my Her2neu was initially reported as negative, however, a year later the copy I received stated positive, and thus I missed out on an incredible drug herceptin, which might have prevented my recurrence.
