LUNCH TIME POLL

Dawn Boyle

or the Proudmoore PrideFifty-three percent of Americans support making gay marriage legal, a recent Gallup poll showed a marked reversal from just a year ago when an equal majority opposed same-sex matrimony.

How do our readers feel about same sex marriage?

BLOW UP RIDES & BOUNCE HOUSES

Dawn Boyle

This past weekend a number of people were injured when blow up "rides" were blown into crowds by a gust of wind with children still inside of them. I HATE THESE RIDES!

I will first let you know that I do have a rather large blow up slide. We got it a few years ago for our daughters birthday party. Every time we set it up, someone gets hurt. I hate that slide!

A few years ago we had a kiddie party at an indoor party place that has the inflatables as well. At least three children received burns on their skin from going down the slides. Did I mention I hate these stupid things?

Another time at a large community party my kids were inside a blow up bounce and it started to deflate, I never moved so fast in my life to get my kids out of that damn thing before they were suffocated by it.

What is the story with these things???

Are there any safety rules that the manufactures or owners have to abide by???

I am happy to say that my children are no longer fans of these rides. I fell so horrible for the people who were injured in Oceanside, NY on June 4th. I have personal experience with a child being affected by PTSD from a carnival ride and I know that a lot of the people involved will have a long road ahead of them to be able to coupe with what happened and what they witnessed.

A viewer snapped this photo as wind gusts sent three bouncy houses flying into the air – with kids inside – in Oceanside, leaving 13 people hurt.

MEN WHO LEAVE

Tony Walker

In my "He Said" posts I am always asking you sexy ladies out there about why you do certain things. Women are mysterious but I love them so much!
But now I have a question for men... well not all men.... certain men. Men who leave their families.
Not men who get divorced & have part time custody of their kids. That's just a divorce with custody split between the parents. Both parents are still involved in their kids' lives.

I'm talking about the men who leave not just the wife, but the kids too. We all know men like this.
I am a victim of this. My father split when my mother was pregnant with me. He immediately moved to California while I grew up in NY. I met him once. He died in 1980.

Lately I've been thinking about this... not my story in particular.... but just about men who leave their families behind. Very recently one of my closest friends had a bad situation at his home. He is married & his wife has 2 kids in their twenties from her first marriage. When her & her first hubby split, hubby took off & lost touch with the kids too. This was only about 6 or 7 years ago. The kids weren't little but they're so sad about losing touch with daddy that the son went crazy at home a few weeks ago. The cops were called & this poor kid spent a week in the mental ward. I know another guy who recently split from his wife. He worked weekends so his time with his kids was very limited. Now that he is "free" he is off on weekends! A few years back I received a phone call from a girl I know. Her & her hubby were fighting so bad she wanted me to come help. When I got there I realized they were fighting because she wanted to split up but had no place to go so she was going to leave the kids with hubby until she figured something out. Hubby was freaking out not because his marriage was over.... he was freaking because he didn't want the kids!!!

Fellas!!! What the hell are you thinking?? How can you just leave your kids behind?? As an adult I realize that my father was a major dipshit & actually did me a favor by leaving but that's another blog. While I enjoyed my childhood I do remember those times where I had to find a "daddy" for father & son events.

When I was sick with cancer I lost a lot of time with my kids. Then I was on crutches for 3 years from the cancer so I lost more time with the kids. I've been crutch free for 6 years now but I still feel like I haven't made that time up. Maybe I am biased on this subject based on my experience, but I can't imagine so much time away from my kids.

Anyone wanna chime in on this? Maybe tell us your experience with someone who left their family behind? Is there anyone out there who actually did that because of legal reasons or something? I'd like to hear reasons why someone could do that because I don't get it.

INTRODUCING NATALIE... WE WELCOME YOU TO DRL!

My Last Crazy Project

Natalie Molloy

I have to say I could just sit and watch my garden grow all day. I wait for my husband to leave for work and out the door I dash. After all I only have a certain amount of time before he comes walking through the front door to ask "what went on here today?"

We women realize that the best time to rearrange a room , hang a picture , dig a giant hole in the ground and plant a tree or vegetable garden , yes the best time to get these projects done is definitely when hubby is not around. No questions asked. No comments like "Leave it where it is it looks just fine" cue the beer cracking open and baseball game on. Feet up on the coffee table (that you want to move) and project not getting done. I've talked to many women about this and most seem to agree.

My last project was when I moved our fire pit from one side of the yard to the other. The pressure was on, I had limited time to get it done, and you never know when a surprise visit during the day may occur, my husbands office is literally five minutes away! A goodbye kiss a peak out the window to make sure he was DEFINITELY gone and shovel in hand I was out the door! I started by digging out the hole for the new location of the fire pit with that dirt I filled the old hole. Then started moving the thirty some odd boulders with a hand truck across the yard to surround the newly located pit. I felt like Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke when he had to move the rock wall from one side of the prison yard to the other and then back again. A quick "Hi honey how's your day going" phone call to make sure I wasn't getting a surprise visit and back to work I went.

I finally finished and couldn't help but marvel at the outcome of my project.
It was hard work, a major calorie burner! It came out great! I couldn't wait for my husband to come home and show him how great the "new" pit looked. I just knew he'd love it.

WANNA LAUGH?!?! - MOVIE EDITION

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
Sally Albright: Most women at one time or another have faked it.
Harry Burns: Well, they haven't faked it with me.
Sally Albright: How do you know?
Harry Burns: Because I know.
Sally Albright: Oh. Right. Thats right. I forgot. Youre a man.
Harry Burns: What was that supposed to mean?
Sally Albright: Nothing. Its just that all men are sure it never happened to them and all women at one time or other have done it so you do the math.

SUNDAY TRIVIA - Inspired by the Movies

Did you know...

In the movie E.T. there is a scene where the young boy lures the extraterrestrial with some Reese's pieces. Originally Spielberg was going to use M&M's, but he could not get the rights. Reese's pieces were the replacement.

The Godfather was the first movie in over twenty years in which Marlon Brando was required to audition.

In Carrie, the slow motion scene at the end of the movie was filmed in reverse to simulate ghostlike movement effects. If watched vigilantly, cars can be seen driving backwards in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

Near the beginning of the movie Back To The Future there's a scene where they show all of the clocks at Doc's house. If you look closely there is one clock with a little man hanging from the minute hand.

Brooke Shields spent a lot of time during the filming of Blue Lagoon standing/walking in a trench beside Chris Atkins so that she wouldn't be taller than him in the scenes that they had together.

In Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo is about to be frozen in carbon when Princess Leia says, 'I love you.' In the original script, Han Solo is supposed to say, 'I love you, too' but after a long day on the set, actor Harrison Ford became annoyed and snarkily remarked 'I know.' The line stuck.

"Halloween" was originally going to be titled "The Babysitter Murders".

In Tim Burton's 2001 version of 'Planet of the Apes', Charlton Heston made a cameo appearance, but this time as an ape. He played Zaius, General Thade's father.

Due to the amount of violent acts shown "Red Dawn" was the first movie to be handed the PG-13 rating.

The story of Mulan had been told in China for almost 1,500 years before Disney picked it up and made it into a movie.
