THANKING IS AN ACTION... (Reprise)

Barbara Ward-Finneran
Why just be thankful for one day...
Oh, the power of two little words --- "Thank you". Utter those two words and they can make all the difference in the world.  In some instances, forget to say them and you might never be forgiven.  Reflect on the blessings in your life and it can change your perspective in mere moments. Being thankful should be automatic.  Most of us were taught to say "thank you" from the time we were toddlers, yet often our interactions as adults tend to be thankless. Yes, we share polite "thank yous" all the time.  But that's not enough.  So often, we take for granted our relationships, our blessings and our freedoms.  Caught up in what we don't have, or feel that we need, or just the chaos of life, rather then focusing on what is purely the essence of having a thankful heart - being grateful for all that you "do" have in your life.

In just days we will be celebrating Thanksgiving.  An abundance of family, friends and food meld happily with the thankfulness that we have for love, life and the Lord.  Being thankful has power.  An attitude of gratitude breeds the positive and lends strength and kindness to any relationship. On Thanksgiving everyone is thankful. On this day we remember, reflect and relish in all our blessings. But, do you share it?  Not just with a prayer around the table holding hands at dinner.  Have you taken action? Do you give from your own abundance? Allotted something for those less fortunate then you. Have you told someone why you are thankful for them?  Expressed gratitude to someone and specifically reminded them of why they are significant in your life. It's so easy to think that someone knows how you truly feel, or overlook the value in actually expressing your feelings.  So easy to assume that they will always be around to tell.  But the truth is, you can run out of time.

Thanksgiving is a compound word; "thanks" and "giving".  This year, consider making thanking an action.  Make giving an action too. Do something to help others whether it be with kindness or generosity.  Take the time to fashion the kind words and thoughts in your heart and mind, then say it and or write it, but most importantly share it! Do whatever is in your power to make thanking an action that is purposefully done in little and big ways not just this this Thursday, but forever forward in the days ahead.  Do it.  Do it again & again! Then being thankful, generous and appreciative will become a natural and positive part of your daily interactions.  It will make for so much more to be thankful for --- your heart will be filled and the love and gratitude will be contagious and endlessly grow.  And better yet - you will reap what you sow - Now, that's something to be thankful for...!!!

"Give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love." - Psalm 107:8

POOR MR. TURKEY

WANNA LAUGH?!?! ...THANKSGIVING STYLE

Things That Sound Dirty on Thanksgiving Day But Aren't.......
"Talk about a huge breast!"
"Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist."
"It's Cool Whip time!"
"Whew, that's one terrific spread!"
"I'm in the mood for a little dark meat."
"Are you ready for seconds yet?"
"It's a little dry, do you still want to eat it?"
"Just wait your turn, you'll get some!"
"Don't play with your meat."
"Just spread the legs open and stuff it in."
"Do you think you'll be able to handle all these people at once?"
"I didn't expect everyone to come at once!"
"You still have a little bit on your chin."
"Use a nice smooth stroke when you whip it."
"How long will it take after you stick it in?"
"You'll know it's ready when it pops up."
"Wow, I didn't think I could handle all of that!"
"How many are coming?"
"That's the biggest one I've ever seen!"
"Just lay back and take it easy ... I'll do the rest."
"How long do I beat it before it's ready?"

HE SAID... WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THERE'S A STORM BREWING?

Tony Walker
Here in NY, Long Island in particular, we are dealing with the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. I was going to write something about that storm but decided against it. There are a million places to see, hear, & read about the hurricane. I've decided to stick with what I do best.... and if anyone knows what that is please let me know.

This week's He Said is actually a "He's Asking".  So my question is: Do you stay together for the kids sake or not?

Right now I know 3 people who are in their marriages solely for the kids. These people believe that splitting up with their spouse would mess up their kids. I'm sure all of you have heard that reasoning from someone you know. But is staying together for the kids sake doing more damage? If you're fighting, do you want the kids to witness that? Maybe you're not fighting but you're miserable... do you want your kids growing up thinking that being married means being miserable? Of these three I speak of, one woman recently told her husband that she doesn't love him anymore so right now they're together for the kids. She's so happy she finally got this off her chest that one would never know her marriage is over. So is fooling the kids an option too?

I look at my life.... my father split when my mother was pregnant with me. I lived with my mother, brother, & grandmother. My best friend was right next door & there were plenty of kids on my street & in our neighborhood. I had a great childhood. Later in life I found out my father was a screw up his whole life until he died in a bizarre motorcycle crash in his early 40's. I was 10 when it happened. I realized I was better off with my parents NOT together.

Based on my own story, my vote is to not stay together for the kids sake.

Tell me and all of us at DRL what you think.
Do you agree with me? Do you know kids who got messed up because his/her parents split?

JOHN MCAFEE LOSES IT!

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

John McAfee founded McAfee software  in 1987. By the early 1990s the company had grown into the largest anti-virus company in the world. By giving the software away for free then charging for technical support and upgrades, he changed the software industry  forever. In 1994, McAfee became bored with his business and stepped down as CEO . He sold all of his shares for $100 Million.  After the sale, the company continued to grow by leaps and bounds. If John McAfee had held onto his shares he would now be a multi billionaire!
Instead, McAfee began spending like there was no tomorrow. He accumulated a mansion in Hawaii, a jet, a ranch, and more. Bad investments caused him to claim bankruptcy in 2008. He sold all his possessions and barely had $4 million to his name.
It was at that point McAfee moved to Belize, where he believed his money would go farther. He began dating a 17 year old girl and opened a "new age" pharmaceutical company. It was believed by local authorities, that he was actually producing methamphetamine and "bath salts". In May of this year he was thrown in jail and his house was searched. Police found quite a few guns. He was released a day later.
Today, police announced that John McAfee is the prime suspect in the murder of his neighbor, Gregory Faull.( Last Wednesday, Faull filed a formal complaint against McAfee in the local mayor's office, claiming that the McAfee had been firing off guns and exhibiting "roguish behavior." )
McAfee is on the run from police but granted a phone interview today where he claimed that the FBI and authorities had been after him for a long time and that he was totally innocent. He believes the Prime Minister of Belize and the police are setting him up and that he will be killed if turned over to the police. And so, the millionaire/would -be billionaire has basically lost it all: his fortune, his possessions, and quite possibly his mind!

KEEP THE FAITH & DO SOMETHING KIND TODAY...

Faith is believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe.
It means daring to imagine or embrace the unfathomable.
It means to dig deep and find strength that you didn't know you had. To find courage with every breath and every tear.

We must hold onto faith.
We must hold onto hope.
We must love.
We must be angels to each other when we can't make sense out of things, because there isn't any sense to what has happened.
But there is always FAITH, HOPE & LOVE to be shared through every kindness.
Our hearts and thoughts surround those in recovery from the storm.

Prayers continue for all that are still dealing with the great destruction and aftermath of Sandy...

"Protect them Lord and keep them safe. Grant them mercy and give them grace"
