ZOMBIE MANIA

Jacksonville Zombie Walk
Marion Pellicano Ambrose

I loved Dawn’s post “The End of the World”  and went on to check out one of the links about Zombie preparedness. It was awesome! The CDC capitalized on the current popularity of Zombies to stress disaster readiness. It made me think of the latest craze here in the South, Zombie Walk!   Held annually in many larger cities, participants dress up as different types of zombies or zombie fighters and parade the main streets, frequent businesses and restaurants and generally have a blast!
This activity is not limited to College students, but is enjoyed by Zombie lovers of all ages. It’s great fun, a boon to local businesses and if the Rapture does come, these people will have a great disguise ready to escape the Zombie invasion!
Even Zombies like to swing dance!

Northerners should not be discouraged; you have the infamous Zombie Pub Crawls to look forward to!  There are guides for how to dress, do your make up and stay safe on the ZPC official website. (http://www.myspace.com/zombiepubcrawl/blog/441411553 ) I’m thinking we need to have a ZPC here in Melbourne!
Zombies have been so popular that they often appear in the headlines. The Texas Department of Transportation hit the headlines when hackers started changing the messages on their digital signs. The following sign was altered in Austin, near the University of Texas.
In Science, there is talk of the “Zombie Pig”. Military Doctors are working on a project where they drain the blood of pigs (which are physiologically similar to humans) and replace it with cocktail of hydrogen sulfide which temporarily shuts down the brain and heart and placing the pig in a type of suspended animation. This allows life- saving treatment to take place and then animation is restored. Testing on humans is planned for the near future.
Zombie Pigs! What's Next?
So if you’re interested in Zombies, or just want to be prepared in case of being one of the “left behind” after the Rapture, check out some of these Zombie sites.
