DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?

Model Tara Lynn

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

  • Jack Nicholson knows a beautiful woman when he sees one!
  • Here he is with Kathy Bates.

They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

The beautiful Queen Latifah
At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself:"How amazing am I ? "

Oprah has spent millions of dollars
to be thin but she was always
beautiful!
Don't let the media, society, your friends or even your mother tell you that only thin people are beautiful. We need to educate our children that just as people of all colors are beautiful, people of all sizes and shapes are beautiful too! Through most of history, very curvy women were considered the most desirable. Just look at Renaissance paintings and you'll get my point!
I'm not saying we should't be healthy and eat right, I'm saying that we need to recognize that not all people can or even want to be thin , and thin is not the definition of what is or is not true beauty!
People say beauty comes from within, and that is true, but outward beauty is also found in a person being who they are, not what the media tells them to be!

  1. Wonderful post, Marion! Women are surrounded by images that glorify only one body type as the ideal.
Skinny does not equal healthy. Yet too often women's "health" magazines emphasize weight loss as opposed to fitness. We are so much more than a number on a scale. Rejoice fellow whales, embrace the idea of health and not the bag of bones look.

  2. You're right, Mermaids don't exist and whales ARE beautiful, amazing creatures. It's wrong to use "whale" as an insult to a person. And besides, Mermaids are man eaters! This comment is being made by a boy!

  3. Really ladies? I think you are taking this a little seriously. Yes Whales are nice but don't think many of us want to lie down with them either.
