ART GALLERY OF DREAMS - Part IV

In the Studio with Garyo - Day Four

If you haven't tuned in on Day One, Day Two,  or Day Three, today is Day Four and Nacho is really coming together now. Recently Green Whisker Works, my NY-Based studio, had a contest on FaceBook. The contest was simple, go on the Green Whisker Works page do the "like" thing and then post a picture of your pet. After the deadline, I put everyone's name that posted in a hat a randomly pulled out one lucky winner. The winner was Brenda Dungan Edmonds and her little dog Nacho. So she sent me lots of wonderful pictures of this cute little guy and I set to work on immortalizing him.
I've carved one eye in and now I need to do the second.
Poof! Now we have two eyes carved. There is a problem, but I'll get back to that as I need a break from the eyes for a bit.
Going for detail work now I start adding fur texture to little Nacho. I'm using a hard plastilene clay that is soft when heated and hard when cold. This lets me both model or add, as well as carve in the clay. That way I can get great detail without having to switch into different medium.
The soft and hard abilities of this clay really help me out when I take a look at the eyes again. If you look back at the pictures showing the second eye carved, you may notice at the moment Nacho the sculpture is wall-eyed. To fix this I can warm up the clay again for one eye socket and reposition the eye in the socket. It still needs a bit more tweaking, but you can see both eyes are now closer to looking at the same spot. So I finish up this day with a bit more fur and hopefully finish the fur and eyes on Day Five.

WANNA LAUGH?!?!

A guy walking along the beach finds a bottle. He pulls out the cork, and a genie appears and tells him he has three wishes. "But," the genie says, "I have to warn you, whatever you receive, your worst enemy will get twice as much as you."

"OK," says the guy, "first, I want ten million dollars." The genie grants the wish and reminds him that his worst enemy now has twenty million dollars.

"Next wish, I want a thirty-room mansion in the Bahamas." The genie builds the mansion for him, and lets him know that his worst enemy now has a home twice as big.

"Fine. For the last wish," the guy picks up a big stick and hands it to the genie, "beat me HALF to death."

SADNESS IN THE BASEBALL WORLD

Tony Walker

In sports those of us in the baseball world were saddened to hear that hall of famer Gary Carter has 4 tumors in his brain that are inoperable. The tumors are stage 4 which is pretty bad.
Here in NY, the name Gary Carter is very popular. Carter was one the heroes on the 1986 NY Mets World Series Champions.

As a HUGE Met fan, I met Carter on 4 separate occasions and he was super nice and down to earth. None of the times I met him were at a dinner or baseball show where these guys get paid stupid money to appear to give a shit what fans are saying to them. One time I was backstage at a Fleetwood Mac concert of all places and I had a Mets shirt on so Carter came right up to me. We sat and ate dinner together and chatted like old friends. I laughed because my seats for the concert were better than his. Another time I met him was at a Long Island Ducks game. The Ducks are a local team here on Long Island. In 2009 Carter was the manager. My prosthetic leg has a huge Mets logo on it and I had shorts on. So when Carter saw it he was so impressed he came running to me! Check out my Facebook page... my profile pic is Carter and I from that Ducks game.

So the story is Carter was just not feeling himself and was starting to forget simple things so he went to the doctor only to find out that he has cancer. Can you imagine that?? You're feeling fine then one day you don't feel 100% only to find out something like that is going on inside of you and your whole world is turned upside down in an instant!! I know that feeling. My story of finding out I had cancer is very similar to Carter's. I hope none of you will ever find out what that is like.

Carter's playing career also saw him in Montreal, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. So baseball fans from all over know who he is. Let's all send our love to him, his family, and anyone else going through something as horrible as this.

CASEY ANTHONY TRIAL: JUNE 7th MORNING UPDATE

Marion Pellicano Ambrose
The Casey Anthony Murder Trial resumed today. On the stand was crime scene investigator Gerardo Bloise. Baez questioned him as to why he dried out the garbage from Anthony's trunk that was said to have produced the odor of human decomposition. Baez implied that the evidence was altered because of Bloise’s actions. Bloise testified that he followed procedure and that drying actually preserves evidence and makes it easier to examine.
The “Bone Yard” Doctor, Arpad Vass was called for cross examination this morning.  Vass has been described as “quirky” but is considered a credible expert witness. Baez again tried to discredit Vass’ findings by pointing out that garbage from the junk yard where the car was found had not been collected and tested and that the junkyard itself might have contaminated the air samples from Anthony’s car. Vass offhandedly replied that they took all that into consideration and that his findings were valid.  His candid, slightly geeky demeanor has become popular with the public and possibly with the jury. Only time will tell. The court is in recess for lunch and will resume this afternoon.

LUNCH TIME POLL - WEINERGATE

Technology has opened up a new can of worms when it comes to cheating.
"You're not stalking me, I am stalking you" - that was the answer given to 26 year old Meagan Broussard by Congressman Weiner when she questioned him about their online sexting relationship.

When does Internet chit chat and flirting turn into a scandalous event? Weiner has confessed to having at least 6 online relationships within the past three years.

Mr. Weiner apologized to his wife and to all of us stating that he would not be resigning.

So here we go again...there will be an Ethics Hearing and this will cost all of us how much??? All for some pervert to contact young women through facebook and twitter.

What do you think?  Does sexting while in office warrant someone to be removed from office?

Is sexting cheating??? Is an online relationship without physical contact cheating???

SHE SAID.... Man's Job vs Woman's Job

Dawn Boyle

Man's Job vs Woman's Job - very interesting topic my friend Tony!!

I have mentioned before that I am married for 11 years - together for an additional 5. After 16 years  - I have found a certain dynamic here in this "FAMILY". Turns out that Greg's job is to get up and go to work. My job is everything else including working and co-creator of this blog.

When we first got married we were making a lot more then we are now. The first mortgage on our first house was $1,500 a month and we didn't have two kids. We were both working full time and we had a cleaning lady come in 2-3 times a month. I would cook every night and we would sit, drink wine and listen to music together. I foolishly started doing EVERYTHING. It all turned into MY JOB.

As years have passed more and more has been put on my "plate". The cleaning lady was "let-go", yet the landscaper stays. Laundry is my clothes, the kids clothes, Greg's clothes and then his work clothes.  He used to do his own work clothes laundry - said he didn't want his princess to touch his dirty work stuff - somewhere along the line it became okay for me to deal with the "plumbers laundry" and my princess status was apparently revoked. Basically anything that was "SHARED" has been split down to - Greg goes to work and OCCASIONALLY will take out garbage... everything else is the "Princesses'" job.

AGAIN...before Mr. Personality chimes in here with some b/s comment about me not really doing anything - I want to make sure I  am clear on one thing - THIS IS MY OWN FAULT AND DOING! Catering to someone's every need is NOT a good idea, that is unless you like to clean up after someone's shit - and I am talking a lot of people's shit - Greg the Plumber is available for all your plumbing needs! The Princess will be at home working, doing a blog, and probably taking out the garbage as well!

Tony - wanna switch off days? I can come help you Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You come help me Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday? We can both take off Sunday!!!

Total side note - I have also scraped and painted our 1950's garage door and painted the entire 1st and 2nd floor of my house while he was "working". I have installed all the curtains and put up the pictures as well. I am going to rip out the upstairs bathroom in September when the kids are back in school. What's that saying the shoe makers kids go shoeless??

HE SAID....

Tony Walker
How many of you use the term, "That's a man's job" or "That's woman's work!" Well I am here to say that there is no such thing! It's all work no matter who is doing it.
A relative of mine was getting rid of his kitchen cabinets. Not selling... getting rid of. They are in perfect condition. Since I am poor, have no money to replace my crappy cabinets, & have no pride I said I would take them. So I did.
Yesterday, Monday, was the day my Father In Law & my Uncle Don were going to come over to help me piece all these cabinets together.
Where are cabinets? On the wall & on the floor correct? Correct.
So why did I have to tell my wife over & over this past weekend that EVERYTHING in the kitchen had to be taken down, removed, etc. in order to get ready??
So why did my wife carry on when she got home from work today when she found out that she would have no kitchen sink for a few days???
You're changing cabinets out... you have to remove the counter top. Of course once you start everything snowballs so now we're moving some plumbing & re-sheet rocking the whole kitchen.
"This is men's work. I didn't know," my wife says.
No... getting everything out of the kitchen was OUR work... not work for just the one legged man!!!
If I said, "Well I won't help you do the dishes in the bathroom sink because that's woman's work" I would get kicked in the middle leg! (Which I still have thank God) So what's with all this men's work women's work crap?? Don't men help do laundry & dishes? Don't women help work on a car or paint?
Do men automatically understand construction so they should do it? Do women understand cooking better so they should do it? Do you & your partner share these activities?
Tell us what you think.

CASEY ANTHONY TRIAL: THE FORENSIC EVIDENCE

Marion Pellicano Ambrose

The Casey Anthony trial resumed today and the first witness called was Dr. Arpad Vass, researcher at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (aka “The Body Farm”) in Tennessee. Vass has discovered a new technique for detecting human decomposition from air samples. Vass testified that the odor of human decomposition is different than the smell of animal decomposition.
"I jumped back a foot or two," Vass said of the odor he detected when opening a can containing an air sample from Casey’s car, "It was shocking that strong of an odor could be in that little can."
Vass presented charts showing high levels of certain compounds in samples taken from Anthony's car. One of the compounds present, chloroform, Vass said was found in "shockingly high" amounts on a sample taken from a stained portion of carpet in Anthony's trunk.
The Prosecution hopes to prove that traces of Caylee’s decomposing body were found in the carpet of Casey’s car.  Defense attorney Baez dismissed the evidence calling it “junk science”
Over the weekend Orange County Sheriff's Office crime scene supervisor Michael Vincent testified saying that he helped obtain several air samples from the car trunk. Vincent said air samples also were taken from a bag of trash that had been in the car trunk. Vincent assisted in the processing of Anthony's car in July 2008, collecting stain and air samples from the vehicle, including the trunk. Vincent said processing Anthony's car was the first time that he had ever collected an air sample. Again Baez dismissed the evidence saying that it was too new and unprecedented.
On Saturday, FBI forensic expert Karen Korsberg Lowe testified as an expert that one hair removed from the trunk of Casey Anthony's car was consistent with hair from a dead person and was similar to hair pulled off Caylee Anthony's brush. Under cross-examination Lowe said that she could not be 100 percent certain that the hair was from a dead person or specifically from Caylee.
There’s a lot on the line for Casey Anthony, who is facing the death penalty if convicted. She has seven counts against her, including first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and misleading investigators.
