START YOUR ENGINES!!!!
DAWN BOYLE
WHAT I CAN REALLY TELL YOU ABOUT DAYTONA & RACING: I have been to Daytona - but that was in 1990 for Spring Break. One of the most drunken, semi-memorable weeks of my life. I have been to a car race - but it was at the Riverhead Raceway on Long Island. I dated a guy who was involved with towing the wrecks. I made it through one night of racing. It was the loudest and dirtiest experience. I had never seen a crowd get so into watching anything before, they cheered like it was the 9th inning of the final game of the World Series. Draft beer and nachos were on the menu and if you ever go - DO NOT wear white or heels. You come home with a layer of tire soot all over your skin and clothes and it takes a week to regain your hearing.
This week is the 53rd racing of the Daytona 500. The big race is on Sunday, February 20, 2011. It is a 200 lap, 500 mile race with a sold out crowd that is one of the highest rated sporting events that people tune in to see. It will be shown on Fox, with a 1:00PM start time.
Apparently there are a bunch of races that determine positioning. Martina McBride will sing the National Anthem and the United States Air Force Thunderbirds do a breathtaking air show to entertain the die hard fans of NASCAR. There is VIP seating and people pay top dollar to attend this legendary sporting event. This is considered the Superbowl of the racing circuit, with more then 40 of the best and brightest drivers jockeying to compete for the title. Either way racing is something you should experience!!!
Shoot .. I better sell my tickets !! . Or return my Manolo Blahnik's !! HA
ReplyDeleteDO NOT wear Manolo's unless you are VIP @ the Daytona 500. You will break your neck if you wear them to Riverhead...I did ;)
ReplyDeleteI could never get into racing -too noisy, I hate beer, and it seems pointless to keep going round and round the same circle! Antique car rallies, on the other hand are amazing! Clean, friendly, seeing the countryside and meeting interesting people in each place you stop! Can't beat it!
ReplyDeleteMemories...spent many a night cruising with my parents looking at old cars. By me it used to be Nathans...now it's Cedar Beach or Burger King - GOOD TIMES!

ReplyDeleteIs it harder to get the dirt off your skin from Riverhead Racetrack or Tobay beach Boat basin? I think I still see the flip flop marks from summer 2010. NACHOS
ReplyDelete@ George...beauty is you came here instead!
ReplyDelete@ Fleisch...TRUTH, there is no way I could honestly answer that question. I was in RIVERHEAD for one night and it took a week. I am at TOBAY from April til October and I think I still need a good scrubbing!
NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY - SOMETIMES YOU JUST CAN'T GET RID OF DIRT!
Dirt, can stick...
