LUNCH TIME POLL

In the world of rewards credit
PAIN AT THE PUMP

Why is it that you can go to a restaurant, food store, just about anywhere and you can use a credit card without any additional fee added on, but you go to buy gas and you pull up to the pump it says $4.19 CASH $4.26 CREDIT....

WHY??????????????? It's the same credit card I am using all over the land!!!

Help me out on this one - PLEASE!! Thoughts??? Comments....

  1. Hey, Dawn.... Because they can! All vendors can add the up-charge for using credit - however, unlike gas stations, most choose not too. Use a debit "credit" card or cash to play the game and beat the system.

  2. again....why are we allowing this or shall I say FALLING for this??
Just cause you can do it, doesn't mean they should.

  3. Credit card companies charge a fee for every transaction, so businesses loose some money every time a customer uses a credit card. Some make up for it where they can. The ones that have a minimum amount you can charge are actually breaking the law (at least in NY). There is no legally recognized limit, yet that doesn't stop many places from posting a minimum charge.

  4. HESS is the only station here on Long Island that I know of that does not charge more for credit....I am going to make it a point to seek them (and others that don't) out.

  5. I think that's a great idea, Dawn. Give business to those that serve you well. You may not be able to change the way some business is done, but who you give your business to is still in your hands.
